Question about Computers & Internet

IE8 will usually crash when using Yahoo and sometimes when just browsing. The only solution is to restart the computer, it seems. I'm wondering if I just need to use a different browser.

Yes IE 8 has become a real pain of late. The bug fixes and secuirty updates only made it worse. Use Mozilla Firefox. A faster, better browser with no bells and whistles.

First of all let's reset Internet Explorer to defaults. Start Internet Explorer, go to tools, Internet options, advanced tab. At this tab click on both restore settings. At the lower restore settings check the delete personal settings box and click ok. Restart the Internet Explorer. You will prompt to apply the settings (as when you upgraded from v7 to v8. Follow the on screen prompts and at the end you will have your Internet Explorer restored back.

It's probably an addon in IE thats causing it to crash. Here is how to disable them:

Here's How:

  1. From the Internet Explorer menu, click Tools ' Internet Options.
  2. Click the Programs tab.
  3. Click Manage add-ons.
  4. Click the Add-on you wish to disable, then click the Disable radio button. Note that this option will only be available when an Add-on is selected.
  5. IE7 users also have the ability to detele the ActiveX control. Follow the steps outlined above to select the ActiveX control, then click the Delete button found under Delete ActiveX. Note that this option will only be available when an ActiveX control is selected.
  6. Not all Add-ons in the list are active. To see which Add-ons are actively loaded with Internet Explorer, toggle the Show dropdown to view Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer.
  7. Click OK to exit the Manage Add-ons menu
  8. Click OK to exit the Internet Options menu
  9. If a necessary add-on has been mistakenly disabled, repeat steps 1-3 above, highlight the disabled add-on, then click the Enable radio button.
  10. Close Internet Explorer and restart it for changes to take effect

I would personally use Firefox or Chrome instead though...

I can't sign in my yahoo messenger

Few sugesstions :
1) Uninstall your current YM, restart your pc/laptop, then try installing a new one. 2) If it does not work, try check if your windows is installing new updates, sometimes YM does crash when window is updating. If you are using Win7, then just go to: --> Control panel/ System & security/ Windows Update/ Change setting
In the setting panel, you will see "Important Updates" box selection. Change it to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download & install them". Restart your pc/laptop, then try log in to your YM.
3) If it still crash, then your internet connection might be the problem, & also, Yahoo! can be down sometimes too.

This is a known issue with IE8 happens a lot. I use another browser a lot of folks do. Try this and see if this resolves the issue for you. Go and download FireFox browser Click Here

Now go and see if you can log into Yahoo, if you cannot log in from there most likely they are down. I'm assuming that you can go to other sites other than Yahoo on IE8 then that kind of tells you where the problem lies not with your Internet Provider.

I just went there and I was able to get there. Thanks for using FixYa! I have not used IE in years cannot stand it to many issues and problems occur on a very regular basis to each their own though. It does seem when you first download the upgrade it will work for a bit it just seems to go haywire after that. John

Or your processor is having problems.
Depending on your OS, and or programs you are using.
Freezing is a sign of a need to upgrade.
Your pc is likely slow.

If this is not the issue, then you should provide more info.

Some verions of Yahoo are now defuct, not that anyone will tell you. You need to get IE8 and open your browsing session from it.
Dont open with the old Yahoo version

1. Log onto the internet
2. Go to http://bookmarks.yahoo.com
3. Sign in with your usual email address and password
4. This will bring up a list of your bookmarks
5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Tools
6. Click on "Export Bookmarks"
7. Make sure that all the bookmarks are selected
8. Below that where it say "Select Export Format" make sure it is set to for Internet Explorer and click "Export"
9. Save to the desktop
10. Open Internet Explorer
11. Then click on File, then Import
12. Select "Favourites" click Next
13. Browse to the "Bookmarks" file that should now be on your desktop and click Next
14. Your Bookmarks should now be in the favourites tab in Internet Explorer
