Then you need to go into your control panel, to your network . LAN settings, and set the address in there.

If your router is set up for DCHP, telling your computer to automatically aquire an IP address will work.

That's one reason I asked what the IP is. If you are coming up with a 192.168.xxx.xxx your router is issuing the ip address.
If it's coming up with a specific address, it is set in the LAN setting. But you said you just rebuild the computer, that's where it doesn't make sense.

So I might need more information at this point. Check those setting first, and let me know what you find.

You said it's not connected to a router.

    What is it connected to?

If it is set to automartically aquire, it is getting the address from something.

Other wise it would come up with an address of 127.0.0.x (local host address).

So there is something else in your system/network that is doing DHCP

Ok, so where ever the fiber is coming from is setting the IP.

So that's why you can't change it at the PC.

The ipconfig release and renew only works for the local machine, not your connectivity feed.

You have to find out what is setting the address at the fiber.

I can't find the IP Address on my ARRIS Router!

the ip address should be given automatically by the router but since it is asking,
in your computer go to start, run, type in cmd and hit enterm
it should open a black box in that box type in ipconfig and hit enter,
it should give u a list of result, search the one which says ip address,
if the ip address of ur computer is 192.168.1.2,then the ip address for your xbox should be 192.168.1.7,
if the ip address is different than the example i gave you just make sure that the difference between the last numbers should be 5 atleast....let me kno the ip address of your computer and i can tell what ip address u need
for the xbox...........

Identifying Your Router's IP Address
You should have now received an IP address from your router. To view your IP address information do these two steps:
  1. Start > Run then type CMD then press Enter.
  2. Then in the command prompt type ipconfig /all
If you see your network interface with a list of IP addresses(should not be all 0.0.0.0's or 169.* addresses). If you got an IPstarting with 192.168.* or 10.* you are doing great! If not, verifyconnections or reboot computer. Observe the Gateway IP Address. This is the router's IP address. It may be one of the following, test in your Web browser:
http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.0.50 or http://10.0.0.1

Once you see a login prompt, you need to log in with the default routerlogin. Usually they are a combination of "admin" and no password or"admin" for the password and no username " or "admin" for username and"password" for the password. Alernatively, you can search Google withyour model number and it should yield you some useful information onyour router including the default login/password.

Then when you are inside it, you should go to the LAN section andenable DHCP (if it already isn't). For security you may limit theamount of addresses to the number of computers (you don't have 254computers, so why allow 254 computers addresses?). For example, I allow3 IP addresses on my network to be issued, since I have a NAS, Laptopand a Desktop.

Laptop cant connect wirelessly

Hey Charlie, If you re-installed your operating system you will need to get the wireless modem driver from your dell disk. For some reason they have not included the drivers in the windows software. If you can't find it then you can go on to the Dell site(obviously on another computer) and enter your service tag and get your drivers that way.

I hope this helps

Internet sharing

Hi, Could be done. On the Dell XP - 1. Activate your Internet Connection Sharing. Go to Control Panel, Click on Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection, Properties, Advanced tab, check Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection. In Home networking connection, choose "Local Area Connection", OK; 2. Back to General settings, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties, tick Use the following IP address: IP address 192.168.0.1, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 192.168.0.1, if you know ITT DNS use them otherwise tick "Obtain DNS server address automatically." You have to connect the DellXP with the DellVista using a crossover networking cable. On the Dell Vista- 1. In your Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Connection, Properties, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click on Properties, tick Use the following IP address: IP address 192.168.0.2, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 192.168.0.1, if you know ITT DNS use them otherwise tick "Obtain DNS server address automatically." The above method will also work with peer to peer wireless networking. It might also facilitate connection if you enable auto-detect proxy settings in your browser. There are other methods. This is also better explained at Microsoft support Hope this be of help/idea. Post back how things turns up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Re: Jet Eye ESI-9900 networking problems

Start with the cabling. Check to make sure the Adapter LAN port is properly connected to your switch port and that you are getting a link light on both ends. It appears that this device can only run at 10mbps, so if the port is set to 100 or 1000, or even has the duplex set to full, you are not going to get a physical connection. Next, check to see if there is any diagnostic utility to confirm that the IR port on the table is infact communicating with the docking cradle. Since this product is 10 years old and the company has since been bounght by a software company, documentation has been very hard to find. I did mange to find a FAQ re: setup here: http://resolution.extendedsystems.com/ESI/Service+Support/XTNDAccess+Infrared+Connections/Troubleshooting/XtndAccess_TS_Net_1.htm And two Microsoft articles mentioning that the IR driver has to be up-to-date in order to work: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/149449/EN-US/ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/149450/EN-US/ Next, check that you have IP and IP address and IP connectivity. This can be done via the command prompt by typing the following command: ipconfig /all If you do have an IP address, then try to ping the Windows XP laptop with the following command in the command prompt: ping 192.168.1.100 NOTE: Replace the 192.168.1.100 with the IP address of the laptop. This info can be obtained with the same ipconfig /all command listed above. If you get a response from the ping, thats good and means you have end-to-end connectivity. Then you will just have to check to make sure the microsoft client and file and print sharing services on installed and enabled on both the tablet and laptop. If you have folders shares on them, you should be able to go to Start -> Run and type the following and hit OK: \\192.168.1.100\ NOTE: Replace the 192.168.1.100 with the IP address of the other machine. If you did not get a response from the ping command, then you have an IP connectivity issue and will need to trouble shoot that further. That could be anything from bad drivers to misconfigured IP settings or DHCP settings. I know this seems like a lot, but there really could be any number of reasons why this is not working. To close, I will try to summarize. 1) Check the physical network connections on both computers 2) Check the TCP/IP network settings on both computers 3) Check the Microsoft Client & File and Print Sharing settings on both computers.
