Barely ever used and I get an error message saying there is a paper jam. Problem is there is no paper in the machine or the rollers. Everything appears fine when top is open. I have tried everything but a hammer.
Yes, the hammer is the best solution. Mine started with the paper jam error when there was none, then it started saying there was no paper when there was paper in it, and now it just sends the paper straight through without printing anything. Yes, definately, the hammer!!!!!!!!

press the diamond shape button start button to eject the jammed paper. If the jammed paper is not ejected, go to the next step. if the paper is stuck near the sheet feeder or output tray, gently pull it out. If the paper is stuck inside Epson Stylus CX7800, press the power on button to turn it off. Open the scanner and remove any pepr inside including any torn pieces. Do not pu;; it backward beacuse this can damage the sheet feeder. Close the scanner, then turn the epson stylus CX78oo back on.
The sensor lever was stuck and still blocking the sensor and that is the reason why it always say paper jam.You have to dismantle your printer if you do,you can find and trace the sensor where the paper is being inserted, most probably it is near the pick up roller (it is the one that gets the paper).
when the message appear? Turn on printer or starting to print? If message appear at beginning turn on printer is caused by "something " slip at paper feeder. But if it appear at start to print, it caused by chip error? Do you use CISS chip?
Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by
holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the
paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling
out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do
this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any
obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or
ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the
printer back on.
If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.

a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume
button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the
printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.
chances are you are having an issue with the paper sensor mechanisms, check if there are obstruction or any foreign object that are actually preventing the paper to go through all the way to the right hand side of the printer. if there is non that is already a hardware issue:

Here is the link for all the documentation, troubleshooting and drivers for your printer.
If you go through the troubleshooting guide, hopefully you will find an answer - with the info you gave I had no luck, but the procedure is quite detailed, so you may have more idea what answers to give.
The next thing to try is to uninstall and reinstall the drivers - on the link above you can download the latest versions. This ,may solve the problem and is simple enough to do (ask for more help if you have trouble with this procedure).
The only other thing that maybe worth doing is to give the whole machine a gentle shake just in case the scanner carriage mechanism is somehow jammed - sometimes a shake or a slap can free this.
Hope this helps, if not please post again :)
