Question about Maverick CL-116 Clock Radio

1 Answer

How can I keep my CL-116 from coming on at random without anyone near it? The alarm/voice/radio works fine, but as of this morning, it is now announcing the temperature etc. at all odd times.

I have the manual that came with the radio and have read it thoroughly. It is not a question of setting the alarm. That works fine. But from time to time, the voice just comes on and announces the temp and forecast as if someone had touched the bar at the base of the unit.

First of all, here is the direct link to the ONLINE USER'S MANUAL for that model:

http://www.smarthome.com/manuals/1949.pdf

To view the Owner's Manual with Operating Instructions just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated and the contents of the Owner's Manual.

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents.
You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary.
Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there.

See page 9 of the ONLINE USER'S MANUAL for detailed instructions on how to set the alarm or reset the unit. Note, if the unit's alarm OFF / BEEP / VOICE slide switch is set to BEEP, then it will beep for 1 minute, then shut off automatically for 5 minutes, then start beeping again repeatedly every 5 minutes.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.If this was at all helpful please click on the 4 Thumbs Up helpfulness rating icon you see on this page.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Joe.

If you are confident that you have it programmed correctly, and are familiar with the various modes of operation, then it may be an intermittent short circuit on circuit board underneath that button (button 13 in manual - page 5).

However, before disassembling the unit to visually inspect the board and clean it, I would recommend changing out the batteries in the remote unit and carrying out the RESET procedure on the clock.

If the problem still persists after that, unplug the unit, then unscrew the casing screws and disassemble the unit in order to access the front button circuit board. Visually inspect the circuit board and button assembly for any loose connections, or corrosion, or buildup on the board. Also inspect the switch mechanism on the board where the button presses down and makes contact and ensure that it is not displaced, damaged, or just worn out. Clean the circuit board with some isopropyl alcohol and some QTips to remove any dust or oxidation which might cause an intermittent short circuit.

Obviously, if the unit is still under warranty, just return it to your place of purchase for a replacement or refund rather than open it up to repair it yourself which would certainly void any warranty.

    Good luck.

If your battery voltage is low, this will cause the alarm to go off. Even if you put it in valet mode it will still go off until you change your vehicle battery.

I have owned an Insignia clock radio model NS-CLVR01 for six months. Every few days the time will "freeze". I reset it and it works fine for a few days, then freezes again. Solution?

I had the same problem. Just random times of the day it would freeze. I followed every step in the manual. Did major fully day unplugged resets. Made sure the Voice Command was not on. Repeated many of these strategies in different order with advisement from Insignia tech. Problem persisted over course of a month no matter what I did. The best solution I found was battering it with my hammer until it was in 100 pieces. It doesnt freeze up anymore. My SONY alarm clock works great.

1989 560sl. When it rains alot, lately the alarm will sound when I open the door. I want to disarm it altogether. Does anyone know how?

I had this problem one time with my 1988 560sl. I must have sent it to the shop 15 times when the alarm would randomly go off. The alarm would go off when I opened the door and sometimes while I was just driving down the road. The shop never could figure out what the problem was. They wanted to disarm the alarm, but I didn't allow them to do so.

After months of frustration, and spending nearly $1500 on visits to the service department and my alarm still going off every other day, my aftermarket cd player started to act up. Bingo.

I took my 560sl back to the shop and asked them to check out the wiring on my radio. Turns out, when Bestbuy removed my original tape player/radio, they clipped the original wire connections and attached new ones that would fit my new cd player.

In the end, I spent another $1500 on parts and labor to have all of the wires pulled out and replaced with new ones ordered from Mercedes Benz in Germany. 5 years later, both my alarm system and my aftermarket cd player work perfectly. Thanks to Bestbuy, my $150 cd player ended up costing me an extra $3000.

I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but it's worth looking into.

Times T307S Can't get it to come on

I'm not sure if this will assist all who have this issue, but I noticed this morning when my radio would not come on (after about two hours of pressing every button on the thing), that the Off/Reset button was slightly jammed at the top of the button. I popped it out and my radio came right back on. That may explain why, each time this has happened, it finally comes on after hitting the button several times, it pops the button back out so the radio works again... Hope this helps!
