SP4805 Fan Issue

I also own an InFocus SP4805 that is about 3 years old. The bulb exploded the other night and I replaced it just fine. However I suspected the main fan was not working and checked by removing the back cover. The smaller fan is working.

Since repair shops are $200+ to fix the problem, was anyone ever successful in replacing this fan and getting things to work?

Thanks,
JFC

The fans in these models do not have a speed sensor wire to let the main board know to turn off the lamp to not risk overheating. so if the fan goes, the lamp remains on. however, if the lamp exploded, check the vents for dust. there is a temp sensor that will shut down the projector if it gets too hot. if the vents are clogged, blow the dust out of the projector with canned air. the dust keeps in the heat that the projector is trying to expell. easiest way to repair the fan w/o buying a part: splice the fan wires together. they can share voltage. if the 80mm fan does not work at all after that, replace the fan (pn: 526-0192-xx).

Hi,
Chances are the fan is alright and it's just the Mos-Fet fan driver chip that failed. Or the failed driver chip allowed the over heated lamp failure in which case the fan may be damaged as well. I have repaired dozens and dozens of these and 90% of the time it is the fan driver chip that failed which led to the rest of the problems.

$200 is too much to pay ;) The repair is usually less than $15 in parts and takes about an hour to complete!

That's the worst case scenario !

I see your post is old, but hoping you might still be able to answer my related question. My fan "growls" upon start up, and then usually gets up to speed. Periodically, the whole projector (Optoma EP 732H) just won't start up. Where might I find instructions and parts to replace a driver chip and fan?

More than 5 years old. After replacing bulb you have to reset the lamp hours as follows. To reset the lamp timer, navigate to the Settings>Service menu and select "Reset Lamp Hours"

Infocus LP130, Bulb fires then goes out

there is a problem with the power to the front fan from the main board. there are 3 wires going to the fans: one power, one return, and one signal. if the main board reads no signal from the fan's speed, it'll shut down. check the power going to the fans and the signal. you may need to replace the main board.

InFocus 4805 - right 1/3 is fine, middle 1/3 dim, left very dim.

the light tunnel is collapsing and needs replacement. the part itself is relatively inexpensive, but you have to be careful if you want to replace it yourself. it's under the colorwheel, which is delicate. when you remove the top, front, and rear panels, remove the colorwheel (which is between the lens and the lamp) and carefully set it aside. there are 2 screws holding the light tunnel bracket in place. remove them and the bracket. pull out the pieces of the tunnel (little rectangles of mirror) and replace with a new one. reverse the steps to put it back together. by the way, you can get the part from any infocus authorized service center (check the infocus website for the one closest to you). part # 306-0095-01

Projector goes POP!

I think it's the bulb, the best would be to take it to the shop where you bought it - or any other good electronic goods shop - so they can test it. If its still under guarantee its better to take it to the dealer. Mine had to have the bulb replaced after only 8 months, but it was still under guarantee.

SP4805 bulb does not fire up; led stays green; fan turned on

I had the same problem after purchasing a new bulb. My husband pulled it out after it would not fire up and the new bulb plug in conecter (white with 4 holes with two wires) was different. Take your old bulb and compair the two conecters and see if they match, then check if the wires are in the same slots as in first and last. Mine on the new one were in the first and second to last slot. So we took the wire out of the second to last and put it in the last slot and installed it and it fixed the problem. We also had to unplug and replug it in and do a master reset by pressing the Power and Channel buttons and the same time for 15sec. Hope this helps.

Unable to switch off projector with remote (Infocus SP4805)

A bit unusual for the projector to stop responding to the remote. Usually it follows when someone has opened the projector, they forgot to reconnect the controls from the case top which also includes the IR receiver. If it isn't that, it could be a broken IR pc board or bad connection. I've seen that.

The worst case is that the IR controller on the main board has failed and if that's the case, you'll have to live with it as the cost of a new board is very high.
