Dear All (again)
Does anyone know why my monitor won't come back on after a reboot?
Had a few probs with Photoshop and have had to restart the computer, but the
monitor will not come back on without switching it off and then on again.
Surely this isn't normal.
Anyone got any ideas.
The kit is all new and is just not behaving as my faithful G3 (beige)
Help!!
Thanks,
joolz

That's what you think.
I am quite satifisfied with OE's [adequate] newsreading capabilities, so,
tough titty!

It's what you write that is important, and not what you use to write it
with. Enough said.

I don't think that's right.
Usenet is a method of communication, nothing else. *What* you say is
important, as you say, and within the limits of the law, is strictly up to
you.
However, there are two sides to any communication; the message, and the
medium. The medium part of it can be handled more or less well; that
changes other peoples' understanding of and pleasure in what you say. And
as far as newsgroups are concerned it does seem that MacSoup is
considerably better than OE.

the text in question and select from the Edit menu, under the feature 'Auto
Text Cleanup', a nice little command called 'Rewrap Paragraphs'.
And the above quoted text is the outcome of the rewrap.

a recommendation?
I straightened out your text by first trimming it to the minimum and
then manually inserting quote characters and hard carriage returns.
Since I never quote more than the bare essential needed for my followup
to make sense, this is not much hardship.
OE is dogshit. Get a real newsreader.

Yes, this is a problem with Mitsubishi tubed screens. They all do it with
some G4s.
Copy of stuff from macFixit below: sorry 'bout the wrap....
NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display of America has replied to
our recent coverage of
wake-from-sleep problems with Mitsubishi monitors connected to
Power Mac G4s. They write:
NEC-Mitsubishi is fully aware of the power issue that
exists on these machines and is
currently in the final stages of developing a software
patch that will be made available
shortly. Customers are advised to check the Support
section of the NEC-Mitsubishi web
site in the next few days for a free download patch.
This issue causes certain models of Mitsubishi display
monitors to remain off after the G4
has been either restarted or powered up after a
shutdown. On certain versions of the Mac
OS ROM, this will only occur if the G4 has been in
sleep mode.
NEC-Mitsubishi has identified the cause as an
incompatibility in the Mac G4s with OS
9.0.4 and Mac OS ROMs 4.9.1 and newer. This causes
"power off" commands to be sent
to the monitor on shutdown and restart, however no
matching "power on" command is
sent instructing the monitor to wake up as the Mac
powers up. The problem only appears
on Mitsubishi monitors because they support an optional
alternate power command system
that has been introduced on the new G4s. Monitors from
other manufacturers that support
this standard in the future will also experience the
same problem.
The following Mitsubishi monitors are affected by this
issue: Diamond Pro 2045 Diamond
Plus 120 Diamond Plus 200 Diamond Plus 730 Diamond Pro
720 Diamond Plus 710s
Diamond Pro 920 Diamond Plus 91.
Until the software patch is available, customers
experiencing this problem are requested to
switch the monitor power off for a few seconds before
starting the Mac. It is important to
note that the monitor is functioning normally and is
just following commands sent from the
Mac.
Customers with the following models can use the "Video
A" signal input to avoid the
problem: Diamond Pro 2045 Diamond Plus 200.

experienced by users with Mitsubishi monitors (read all about it on
www.macintouch.com, www.macfixit.com, etc). Th eLaCie monitors are
basically top-of-the-range Mitsubishi devices with blue cases and - I
think - some uprated electronics, so I wouldn't be surprised if the
problem applies to LaCie monitors too.
Anyway, have a look; the problem may be the same as yours. Mitsubishi
are apparently working on a patch to fix it.
