There is a fusty smell coming from the machine how can i get rid of this

This is probably a bacteria smell from boilogical powder residue building up.

The trick for this is to throw three DISHWASHER tablets into the drum of the machine and run it through the hottest cycle you can with no clothing in the machine. Dishwasher tablets are anti bacterial and will kill off the bacteria creating the smell

The rubber round my washing machine door is black and smells

common problem with that style machine. Try running a cup of vinegar thru te wash cycle. The acid from the vinegar will break it down. It may take more than one cycle if its really bad. Once the smell is gone leave the door slightly ajar to prevent it from happenig again.
