Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have an amana washing machine model #: lw6501w2. it goes through the wash cycle fine and then when it starts to spin the motor is turning fine but seems like the tub really is hard to turn as a result the motor pulley spins and grinds the belt down a little each time until it is has ground down the belt to where it is not tight enough and the spin cycle does not work. i have replaced the belt several times. replaced the pump, the tension spring and tension pulley. seems to be something on the tub side of the belt that is causing it to strain and be so hard starting the spin cycle cause once it gets going it is fine. have tried it with extremely small loads thinking maybe it was to heavy but the same thing is true. would appreciate any help as i am unfamiliar with the tub side of the belt so i am lost when it comes to what is involved there. thanks john

The problem is the shifting mechanism for the spin mode in the transmission assembly. The shifting mechanism is getting stuck and fails to shift the transmission from agitate mode to the spin mode. Remove the drive belt then turn the drive pulley in both directions it should turn freely both ways; otherwise, the transmission assembly is indeed faulty and replacing is the only viable solution.

Frigidaire washing machine (FTW3011KW0) runs through all cycles, agitates, pumps out water, but doesn't spin, nor does the motor attempt to spin during the spin cycle

Your main switch needs replaced. The motor that drives the switch operates because it goes through the other cycles, so the switch must be bad.

Sorry that does not sound right,,. there should be interlocks that stop agitating and spinning from happening at the same time. go to the dealer you bought it from and tell them and there may be a recall for your problem and they may replace your machine at no cost or low cost to you no matter how long you have had the machine,at least in theory..

Sounds like the outlet pump has siezed up due to having been stood for so long. You may need to take the pump apart, clean the shaft & reassemble. Or, you could try a spray with WD 40 on the pump. TURN POWER OFF FIRST
