Question about Garden

My pool pump will not shut off even though the timer says the pump is off. When I put the timer in manual mode the pump won't shut off either. I can only turn it off using the breaker and cutting off the power to the motor. What's wrong and how do I fix it?

Hi, most likely the unit that controls the Motor has faulted in the ON position. This means that the controller/relay/driver needs to be replaced in it's entirety.
This indeed could be rather dangerous, and it is my professional recommendation that you get a pool electrician to service your issue, of course as usual always ask for a "Quote" before allowing any repair work to be undertaken.

Yellow is the color to let you know that there is power to the pump, witch allows the pump to run according to your predefined start up settings. If you turn the power to the Pump off, the yellow light goes out, and after 72 hours, you will lose your pre determined startup settings.

Hayward pool filter

Copy following link to access Hayward pool filter manuals: Each manual has a troubleshoot section.... and troubleshoot is about the same for different models of sand filter.

Your filter has Intermatic timer, and you tried the override lever with no luck... Check if circuit breaker is supplying power. Flip breaker fully off, and then fully back on.

Also I see that Intermatic timer has plastic cover over the terminals ... be sure wiring terminals are always covered by clear insulator for safety.

Add a comment for followup.

I just replace a T101 with the same timer. The old one stopped turning. The new one has the same problem. It is getting power because I can manually switch on the pool pump. The timer just won't...

Hi,
The switch for the pool pump does not necessarily run from the same power as the timer motor...

Check for timer motor rated power on the first two terminals that run the timer motor...you may not have proper power there...you may have 120v but not 240 volt...

My Pentair pool pump runs continuously even though it is set to auto on outside & inside panels.

If your pump is running constantly either the timer is set to "manual on" or the timer has failed. Check the settings on your timer. Usually on a mecanical timer the manual on lever is just under the 24 hour dial. On the electronic timers it is controlled by a relay that if it fails defaults to always run.

Install a timer to control pool operation

Another option would be to get an electronic timer like the Intermatic P1353 that has 3 circuits on it that you could program to cut on and off at different times. For example, you could have one circuit that controls the pump and turns the pump on, then the second circuit would turn on the booster pump at a set time after the filter pump had come on and then the heater could be set to also run at a preset time after the pump circuit was activated. Since the pump, booster and heater are all 220, it's a straight forward hookup with everything in one timer box.

The lights, as stated before, would be on a separate circuit (110) and have its own timer or photosensitive eye set in line.

Once T101 Timer Shuts Off will not turn back on

you have the hot and load reversed. the power source should connect to terminal 1. the wire going on to the pool pump should be hooked to terminal 2.

the clock motor is powered off terminal 1 and A is the neutral.

what u have done is hooked the power source to #2 and the load to #1, simply switch them and everything should be fine, here is a link to the wiring diagram for the timer.

Why does the spa empty when the pump shuts off? just got a pool with an aqualink RS4 and no manual to look at. thanks

This problem can be caused by a couple things. the two most likely culprtits are either the absence of check valves and or incorrect actuator settings when the pump shuts down.

Your spa is most likely higher than the pool. You most likely have a spill over (waterfall) feature from the spa into the pool. This is so the spa water can be recirculated in pool mode. One of your actuator valves may be slightly off closed position in order to allow spill over in the spa, or you may have a dedicated overfill pipe in the circuit to feed water to spa in pool mode.

Whichever spill over piping you have set up, when the pump shuts down, water from the spa ( higher level than the pool) will backfeed through the overflow spa circuit, back through the pump and into the pool through either drain or return. Effectively rendering your spa level the same level as your pool.

To fix this problem, simply install check valves into the spa runs and as a secondary measure put one into the pool return run ( the run that feeds water to pool).

This will insure that when the pump shuts down, no matter which position the valve actuators may be set, water can not back feed through the pump circuit from spa to pool.

Pool pump won't shut off

1) timer is on over ride
2)timer faulty -replace timer
3)wiring done incorrectly -power to pump is still present when timer goes off
