Ok so this sounds easy from what you told me, i asume the computer starts up but the screen stays in standby mode. if the cable is pluged in correctly and the power is on then in sorry it is a video card problem, now this isnt such bad news because if you are useing onboard video then you can just but a plug in video card either pcie or agp slot board and if your already using a plug in board just change it back to the onboard video until you replace the plug in one if you choose to do that and if your playing games you will need to because those onboard videos are no good for playing games. ok hope that helps you i know its not what you want to hear but its not as bad as it sounds. let me know how you go.
