My jvc has developed a tracking problem when viewing tapes recorded on other recorders. I cant seem to correct the problem. It shows old tapes without a problem

VCR tracking has to be set up right, but even then many machines have problems with tracking other vcr's tapes. Generally a good quality commercial tape should track well. If it doesn't then either there's a fault with the tracking on your machine or the tracking is not set up right. Most tracking problems are caused by dirt, or wear on the heads or surfaces. Give your VCR a good clean up, every surface the tape comes into contact with, using Servisol Video 40. If that doesn't solve it you might have to look into the cost of replacing heads, maybe the control/audio head first. Or you should look at having the tracking set up by a proffessional (at a JVC service center). However if the tracking was off, after resetting any tapes the machine has done, may now have problems tracking, whilst other machines tapes and commercial will track normal.

Audio noise on some, but not all VHS tapes

Hi,

First thing i would say is go for the HI-FI audio would go in and out and pop etc. Adjusting the tracking would bring in the audio, but sometimes the video would get fuzzy. Get the picture right and the audio goes out. Switch to Linear (mono on some VCRs) and the audio should be fine.

Finally if this doesn't solve your problem then i would suggest you to give it to repair and they will fix it.

Goodluck..

How can I view hi8 video tapes on my VCR My HI 8

VHS units are not capable of reading Hi8 video. You could have a shop transfer your recordings for a nominal service charge but if you have many tapes you may want to have your own unit repaired. You could purchase another unit second hand but be wary of doing so as the tracking could be slightly different to your own one and you would need a service centre to adjust it anyway. Best of luck!

Vhs tapes recorded to DVD+R's

try forwarding the tape to the end and then rewind to the start again, this can help to seat the tape correctly on the spindle . the audio track part of the tape is in a specific region on the tape so misalignment may be the issue with those cassettes.

also try to press the tracking up and down when playing the video

VHS Tape on Sanyo Doesn't play on other VCR's

the heads on the sanyo vcr may slightly be out of alignment from years of use.when playing a recorded tape from this vcr to another, the other vcr's alignment maybe right on track thus causing the poor quality.you can possibly try cleaning the heads with a head cleaner or a high grade blank tape, but i don't think this will solve the problem. but you can try.
good luck
wg
p.s also try higher quality tapes to record on.

Older VHS tapes play 'sped up' on S-VHS

A couple of possibilities: 1. One of the machines had a audio & tracking head alignment problem. If memory serves, tracking pulses are recorded on the bottom edge of the tape, and if one machine's head is slightly off, then these pulses aren't being picked up.

2. Do both machines have 3 play/record speeds? Many machines had SP, EP, & LP. Some didn't have EP, and if your older tapes were recorded in EP, perhaps this would cause your problem.

Both of these possibilities might be way out in left field.

Perhaps you could have a friend try your old tapes in their machine- in short, narrow down the defect. Is it the older VCR and it's recordings, or is it some goofy problem on the new one.

Lastly, you might check the audio/tracking head- see if it needs cleaning. This head is just to the right of the rotating video drum assembly.

Tapes not playing

Hey do the tapes play at all? sometimes some tapes recorded
on other machines won't play on others. maybe you need to adjust the tracking on the VCR you are playing it on. If the tape
was recorded on a VCR that is misaligned it might not play back
on another VCR. Also the tape may have been recorded on a
super VHS VCR in et (extended definition) mode if so they won't play on just any VCR. If the picture looks scrambled like a
premium channel on analog cable then it's probably recorded in et.
and if its recorded on super VHS tape it may eject out of your VCR.
They don't make these S-VHS vcrs anymore but people still
have them around. There is also Digital VHS they're not
compatible with VHS either. A VHS recorded in et mode will
play on some more expensive vcrs it should say so on the box
or instructions.

The VHS cleaning cassette possibly deposited fiber in the heads in the drum. You may need to open the cabin and examine the heads and the mechanism for foreign matterial.
