If any smoke or burnt electrical smell coming from any electronic equipment, then it is caused by a short circuit in the equipment and in most cases the cost of repair may not be justified.

How to clean the glass underside of the hp scanjet g3010

working with computers since 1964 (yes, there were computers even then...), with consumer scanners since 1988, servicing hp equipment and scanners since 1998, for saving my life - i never, ever see any smudging on internal surface of the glass... could you kindly elaborate how you get smudging there?

there is no consumer serviceable parts inside, these are "disposable" scanners and never intended to be repaired or serviced inside.

New Power Cord Stopped Working

DO NOT use the HP power adapter that is 19V / 3.95A. That is too much power for the Scanjet, which is expecting 12V DC (and a much lower amperage). It's possible that hooking up this power adapter may further damage the electronics inside the scanner. If the second adapter has stopped working then it is possible that the internal circuit board has damage already and another adapter may not work. If you have access to a multimeter / voltmeter you could check for the 12V coming from the adapter. If you're getting the 12V, then the internal circuit board to the Scanjet is probably defective.
