It can be formatted but it's not showing the whole capacity. I got a 2.5TB of this annoying HD and after formatting, it only shows 800+GB and from the previous, its kept showing 280GB. WD hard drives have long been an annoying experience, I removed it from my PC and instead looking for Seagate Baracuda, its far better. WD dont even care to find solution from their customers, don't by these equipments anymore.

In your formatting on a windows machine you can format by right clicking the new drive and select format. Or you can format by opening manager by right clicking on my computer and choose manage then go to disk management and locat the new drive and right click format

Hi, I want to know how to install the WD10EARS-00Y5B1 drivers? Okay, the problem is, that my computer doesn't recognise my SATA Hard Disk. I have Windows 7 Home Premium, and another SATA Hard Drive. I...

there are no drivers required for a hard drive.
Windows 7 should automatically detect the new hard drive and it should show up in disk management to format or prompt you to format.
Check your cable connections again.
Otherwise your new hard drive may be DOA. Return it to the store that you purchased from.

I bought a "My DVR Expander" to use with my DirecTV HD DVR. Does Western Digital make this expander in anything larger than 1TB? If so, where can I buy one?

Note that your DVR will treat this as "extra" storage, i.e., supplemental to its "internal" storage.

A 1 terabyte hard drive allows you to record:
  • Up to an additional 600 hours of Digital TV
  • Up to an additional 120 hours of High Definition TV
Since the largest EIDE/PATA disk-drive is 0.5 TB, the disk-drive inside the Expander must be a SATA disk-drive.

So, disassemble the unit, disconnect the SATA disk-drive, and pay about $300 to buy a "2000Gb Western Digital Caviar RE4 Raid Edition 7200RPM 64 Mb Cache 3.5 7200RPM 64 MB Cache SATA Internal HD 3 Yr Warranty WD2003FYYS".

Connect the disk-drive to its interface.
Close-up the case.
Connect your "custom" PVR expander to your DVR,
and see if your DVR will recognize the 2TB of disk-storage.

WD Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB 7200 not recognized at install

Windows XP does not have built in SATA drivers. You will need to download the XP drivers from Western Digital's website and install before the computer will allow you to format and use your new drive. Hope this helps.
