First take the hose of the vacume and make sure you are getting suction where the hose attaches to the machine. If you are then there is a clog in the hose. Try to shake the hose to hear if something is stuck in there or take the brush off the hose and look in the hose for obstruction.

I have a similar Hoover upright and the brush roller continues to revolve even with the handle locked and the hose detached for direct pickup. Seems rather odd to wear out the carpet that way.

How do I fix my hoover that is not sucking up anything?

With your model tempo, the hose needs to be connected to the tube in the back (should have a door cover that flips open). Also check the suction path and change the bags or filters if needed

Just seems to blow bits around rather than suck

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum.

There are a few things that may be causing your vacuum to lose suction. When filters need to be washed or changed, this may cause a loss in suction. Depending on the use of your vacuum, filters need to be changed every 3 to 6 months. If your unit has washable filters, these should be cleaned every 2 to 4 weeks, to maintain the highest filtration and suction in your unit.

If the filters have been properly changed and/or washed, the problem may be caused by a clog in your floor nozzle hose. Most upright units have short hose that connect the floor base to the motor, this hose can easily get clogged and cause loss of suction. You may check the hose by un-clipping it from your unit and cleaning the inside with a damp cloth.

If the problem still persists, you may need to check your unit's brushroll, also known as roller brush or agitator. Check to see if your brushroll is spinning properly, if it has any hair strands tangled or any debris remains that is preventing it from running properly.

No sucking

if you have no suction - then the problem could be a dirty filter or a blocked suction hose. clean the filter and check the hose from top to bottom for blockage. if all is clean and clear and you still dont have suction then the problem could be a bad vacume suction motor.

Most likely your vent for the suction container is plugged or the suction hose can of or is broken at the connection to the tank nozzle (very common on these. Clean the machine thoroughly, and check that all hoses are tight and connected.

No suction

Check again for obstructions in the hose. Also underneath where the debri goes when it is being sucked up. Also make sure all your hoses are connected as this could effect the suction.
