A little school lesson. Infinite switches on on electric ranges and cooktops. If you have clicking is it a gas range or cooktop? I have never heard of an infinite switch clicking. If it is gas, have you recently cleaned around the knobs? If not, that paticular spark switch will need to be changed. And if they are not wired individualy, the whole harness will need to be replaced.

I have a Kenmore Electric Range (Model C970-629934) and one of the large burners only works as high heat - doesn't matter if I set at low the burner gets blazing hot??

This is usually the infinite switch has failed. They are easy to check and inexpensive. Here is a video that will walk you thru testing an infinite switch. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations for your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Have a Kenmore electric range. A model C880 sold by Sears Canada. One of the "element on" indicator lights stay on even though the elements are not switched on.

Kenmore stove surface unit light stays on

When the indicator light does not shut off when the burners are turned to the off position, this indicates one of the infinites switches are shorted. If comfortable with electricity, unplug the unit and remove the rear cover exposing the infinite (burner) switches. Using a bright flashlight, shine directly on one of the switches and you will see the following markings. L1 - L2 - H1 - H2, and then the Letter P. This letter P is for the pilot light. Since there is no way of determining which switch is shorted, remove the wire from the letter P on one switch. Isolate the wire removed so it is not touching anything. Place a piece of black electrical tape around the end to be safe. Next, plug it back in. If the light is still lit, move on to the next one until you have found the switch that once the wire is removed, the light does not light anymore. Replace that infinite/burner switcha nd all is well. If I can help further, I am here.

Waiting to hear from you,
Eric Campion

Kenmore range

Sounds like you have a faulty switch. The switch is controlled by a tension spring in which, when turned off, the spring disengages the connection. If you want to replace the switch, you will be looking for an "Infinite Switch" for the proper parts name reference.
