Shinmo, sounds like your defrost heater went south. Find out for sure. In the back there is a main board. Remove the cover, take a jumper wire with alligator clips. There will be a blue harness, 3 terminals on the board. The board will say, Line, def, comp. Jump line to def. You are now sending 120V. to the defrost heater. pull the back cover and see if the heater is coming on. If not, check for voltage at the wires connecting to the heater. If you have the 120V. replace the heater, part wr51x10055. If you don't have the voltage, it's the board. Catriver.

SOURCE: GE SIDE X SIDE Dispenser problem
Sound like maybe a dispenser board short... you could try taking of the top hidge cap on the freezer side unplug the power to the board there for 30 minustes or so plug back in and see if it can reset to default and try that before u have to change board

th ebi-metal is a thermostat which shuts the defrost heater on/off, but doesnt actually put the unit into defrost. if it were bad the defrost heater would never go on resulting in massive build up of ice on back wall of freezer, and noticable refrigeration sect. cooling.. dont know how you know the compressor never shuts down, but if that the case perhaps you have a sealed system/ freon issue. try removing the back panel of freezer section and check the evaporator coil. you shuld have an even frost pattern over the entire evap coil. if theres just frost over the top 1or 2 coils, and the rest of coil is shiny aluminum , thats an indication of a sealed system issue.( 5 year part warr by manufacture) def not a do it yourself issue...but that would,, depending on extent of restriction/loss of freon,, cause freezer to freeze and defrost eratically, and the compressor would be running constantly trying to achieve a good stable temp

you need to do an amp draw with your meter, clamp the run wire on the compressor, you should get 2-5 amp reading, any higher means the compressor is going bad, also should be a locked rotor amp(LRA) reading on comp.-mike
