The pan's side tabs that the baking chamber's side push clips connect to may need to be adjusted or the pan may be slightly torqued causing the side tab to get hung on the push clip.
Look very closely at the tabs and side clips. ONE OR BOTH MAY BE HUNG UP.
You may need to use a screwdriver to carefully separate the two if hung up.
This problem is common with all machines that have side clips. It happens when installing the pan. Being off by 1 millimeter when installing can cause this issue and is not very noticeable until you need to remove the pan.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank you,
Danny
It is possible that the coupler and the impeller have wedged themselves together.
If you cannot get the pan out by pulling upward very hard , then you may want to consider removing the large timing pulley/wheel. Then remove the clip holding the coupler in place. Then try pulling up hard on the pan again. You may also gently tap on the coupler shaft with a small hammer to help the shaft throught the bearing assembly.
Many pan bases also have wedges. Usually 2 to 3 wedges that help hold the pan into position. Sometimes if a pan is pushed downward to quickly the pan can go to far and become wedged into the coupler assembly. Have you tried tilting or rocking the pan from side to side or grabbing each side of the pan and giving a swift pull. This sometimes will help to unwedge a stuck pan. Another idea would be filling the pan1/2 way with ice and setting the machine to bake. A cold pan and the heat to the coupler will cause expansion and contraction from each part, then a swift tug before the ice has completely melted may also help to unwedge the pan.
Thank you,
Danny

Hi Danny,
thanks for the suggestion. However, the tabs and the clips are fine- we can completely separate the two on each side. it seems like the pan is locked at the bottom of the breadmaker?

Hi again,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I've tried that and it is still stuck. when I rotate the shaft in the bottom of the machine, I can see the shaft rotating in the bread pan, but they are still stuck.
Hi again Danny,
We tried that- unfortunately when we turned the machine on to bake, it started smoking, and the pan still wouldn't move. So, it looks like there is more wrong than we thought and the machine has just given up the ghost. Many thanks for all ofyour help and suggestions.
Cheers,
Fleur and Doug
