Question about Lenovo G550-29583AU Notebook

1 Answer

Lenovo G550 running Windows 7 won't connect to internet. "Default gateway is not available" message displays. I have 4 Vista computers using wireless connections all functioning fine, but this Windows 7 has stopped working. Has worked without problems for 3 months and then suddenly disconnected from network last night and can't get back on. I have even connected to ethernet cable and still no connection is made. Computer "sees" our network and full signal strength. Network diagram shows connected to our network but a "X" between network and internet, but again, all other computers working fine. I've rebooted modem and wireless router, shut down and rebooted computer and have even system restored to last week and still no internet connection. I have seen a few posts that this is a Microsoft 7 problem, but I can't get any solutions on how to resolve this. Thank you for the help.

Hello
Wow youve done almost everything here. How about the firewall? is it blocking any connections?

Next,Go to control panel, network and sharing center.Look and see if the pc or laptop in question is on the same network, meaning home or public.

Set all your machines to the same network.Either home or public.I do know this has been a win 7 problem.

    No firewall to block connections.
Under Network and Sharing Center/View your Active Networks:
    On the left: Home Network
On right side: Access Type: No internet access
    HomeGroup: Joined
Connections: (5 lite green bars) Wireless Network Connection (home network name)

So, all of our computers are set to Home network.

    Default gateway not available?

Can you get the gateway numbers from another machine and manually put them in.Chances are for some reason your router is not puting these into the pcs intenet connection.Or you can request from your internet provider a new ip address.

    Ethernet drivers?Reinstall...

  • drakesbay Mar 11, 2011

I guess I forgot to add that to my list of "have-tried". I did command prompt ipconfig and wrote down my IPv4 address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway. I then clicked on my Wireless Connection and then properties, then under Internet Protocol V 4 told it to "use the following" and manually typed in the default gateway- still nothing.

Not sure about ethernet drivers- how would I reinstall if I have no internet access? I really think it's a Microsoft issue since I've seen it in multiple posts, but no one has clear answers about how to get the computer to reconnect.

You could try going to system devices,Ethernet, then uninstall from there.Reboot and let windows 7 reinstall automaticly when it detects new hardware. The drivers should be in the system 32 files all the time.Im shooting in the dark but maybe they became corrupt. One last thing and then im out of answers. How about the routers software itself? Possible update to the router itsself may solve this.

Exactly the same problem and exactly atthe same date. My laptop installed upodates for windows during night and next day on Mar 11, my wireless and ethernet is not working (working --> but limited connectivity --> no default gateway). Microsoft SUCKS.

I want to secure my Linksys Wireless G Network. My Linksys Router is connected to the internet. My Laptop is connected to a post of Linksys. I am connected to internet. When I try to go to...

While 192.168.1.1 is the default IP for a Linksys router, it may not be what the router is using. If you have Vista or Windows 7, from the desktop click on the start orb and in the "search programs and files" box type "run". Then click on "run". In the run box type "cmd" and click OK. In the black box type "ipconfig/all" without the quotes. Scroll up or down until you see "default gateway". Whatever IP is listed next to the default gateway is the IP that you should use to get into the router.

Hello,
Please try one of the following option:
Browse to http://dsldevice.lan or to the IP address of your Thomson Gateway (by default: 192.168.1.254).
If your computer runs Windows Vista or Windows XP, you can also access the Thomson Gateway Web Interface using the Internet Gateway Device icon.

If you computer runs Windows Vista:
1 On the Windows Start menu, click Network.
2 The Network window appears:
3 Right-click your Thomson Gateway (displayed as THOMSON TGXXX) and click View device web page.
4 The Thomson Gateway Web Interface appears.

If you computer runs Windows XP:
1 Go to My Network Places.
2 The My Network Places window appears:
3 Double-click your Thomson Gateway (displayed as THOMSON TGXXX).
4 The Thomson Gateway Web Interface appears.

Be sure you don't have any popup blocker or firewall interfering.

For more reference here below the manual (Version 7 that is basically the same of V8)

Based on your situation. I suggest trying the following steps:

1. Download touchpad driver from here:

3. After downloading the touchpad driver driver install it and then restart your computer.

4. Log back in to your computer then go to control panel --> open mouse properties then look for Alps pointing device tab.

Every time I run the DSL-504 ADSL2 Ethernet Router CD disc to setup my internet connection, always get the dslultility.exe message say "modam not deteched....." but everything is...

To release and renew IP address, go to Start > Run. Type in CMD and press Enter. At the prompt, type in ipconfig and press Enter. This will display the adapter information such as IP address, Subnet mask, and default gateway.

To view additional information such as Mac address, DNS servers, etc, type in ipconfig /all.

To release IP address, type ipconfig /release.

To renew IP address, type ipconfig /renew.

If you are not able to get an IP address try setting one statically:

Windows 2000

Step 1 Right-click on My Network Places and select Properties.

Step 2 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Step 3 Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Enter your IP information for your network.

If connecting to a router, make sure the default gateway and a DNS server is the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

Windows XP

Step 4 Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 5 See Step 2 for Windows 2000 and continue from there.

Can't ping Default Gateway (XP) From Windows 7

Make sure you are receiving a proper IP address from the DHCP server....If you run a cmd prompt (windows icon, type cmd and hit eneter, then ipconfig) you should see a 192.168.0.x address. If not, go to the control panel, network connections, manage network connections, and be sure that TCP/IP (V4) is set as auto-configure....

If you are sharing the connection through an XP computer, you will need to run the Internet and connection sharing Wizard on the XP computer, and transfger the settings on a disk to the Windows 7 PC. A simpler solution (assuming you are on a cable/dsl connection would to be to go to your local big box store and buy an Internet/Firewall router. It would also increase your security.
