Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My 9 year old front load washer model # wsxh208a1ww, recently started making clanking noise when it got to the high speed spin/rinse cycle. it got worse with each load , till we could no longer use it. it also shook around rather violently so i figured it was the two stabilizing shocks on the underside of the tub...i replaced these and it still does the same thing. I watched it closely thru that cycle and i feel like it is the tub ( internally) some how has fallen apart...is this possible, it is nearly 10 years old, is it time for a new one?...the belt is fine and at proper tension, w/ no signs of oil leaks on it or the pulleys

Based on the description of the problem, it can certainly be deduced that the spinner support assembly, A.K.A spider assembly, has completely gone out. This is the three-arm assembly that holds the basket to the shaft. Unlike the basket which is stainless, the spider is made of aluminum that corrodes with time and usually breaks during the 6th or 7th year of the machine. You can certainly tell that it is the spinner support because the washer is already 9 years old.The bad news is, the spinner support cannot likely be purchased separately. It comes as a complete assembly with the basket which is covered by at least a 10-year warranty. The most frustrating fact is that the spinner support is not covered by the same warranty even though they come as an assembly. But you may inquire from SearsParts or RepairClinic for a separate spider assembly.

Final high speed spin very noisey

Something is causing the drum to be way out of balance. Does it bang and make noise when it's spinning empty? Probably not. Is something stuck on the side (inside of course) of the drum, causing it to shake when spinning? If not, a spring or shock absorber (connecting drum to sides, bottom or top of machine) has broken or come loose.

My Kenmore he front load washer stopped at the rinse and spin cycle. I don't know the model but it only a few years old. It made a load noise before stopping. I attempted to get it going again wit

Kenmore front loader. stopped at rinse. First ck to see if you washer works at different settings if so its very possible its your timmer or what called the wig wag or solonoid this switches the machine to spin & rinse. A basic service call should resolve your problem.

My ge washer wssh300g1ww does not spin out clothes well

Hello, I too bought one of these washers(WSSH300G1WW). After about one year of operation i noticed that the low spin cycle was making noise so look at it and it was just making noise and not spinning. canceled the cycle restarted the machine but this time set the spin speed to high instead of low, it works on high. im guessing its the clutch in the machine that is faulty and really cant affoard to fix at this time. The thing is i liked to use low spin cause the thing would shake violently on high even with a small load. So now when it spins or i start the machine i make sure theres nothing close that its shaking will cause to fall and break. I also bought the matching dryer (dsxh47eg1ww) it too has problems, the bearings that hold the front of the drum up are going out, thing is i dont over load it and it seems that they went out or started to go out very early as my clothes were getting caught inbetween the drum and the dryer 2 months after i bought it. Im 42 years old so i remember when we had REAL washer and dryers. When quality was revered by companies and consumers. Those old machines ran for years (maybe even decades) without problems, replace a belt from time to time. Now days your lucky to get five years out of an appliance. I know these ones arent going to see 5 years. their about 2 years old and im ready to go find some 1970 model year washer and dryer, rebuild, give a custom paint job to call them retro.

The washer quits at rinse and spin dry cycle

I've had the same experience with my Speed Queen washer. Approached the accredited Speed Queen agents for assistance, when tech support was deployed to diagnose the problem.
In the end, I was told that the "timer" went bust. So the wash cycle seems to work 100%, but when it comes to rinse and spin the contacts on the timer don't make contact, and the motor waits in anticipation for it's next command, and that the high pitch noise heard.

Check the cold water hose. My brand new machine had this behavior until I discovered a kink in the cold water hose - works great now.

Load noise in final spin cycle

turn the tub on the inside if it feels ruff as it turns and makes a noise then most likely you have a bad rear bearing, if it is smooth in turning and no noise then turn to drain or spin possibly something stuck in drain pump. the drain pump will start up first if you hear the noise then the drain pump is accessed from the front lower cover, if its the rear bearing probably not worth fixing about 400.00 in parts and alot of work.

Clanking noise during spin cycle

I was told by 3 technicians that my washer had shot bearings and this is a common problem for the Kenmore Elite Front loader.

Sears knows it and will not do anything about it except try to sell you a new washer since it costs $800 to replace the unit with the bearings.
