The phone jack must be connected to a modem, which is then connected to the router via an ethernet cable. To connect:
1. Connect the phone cord from the jack in the wall to the jack in your modem of choice. Turn on the modem. 2. Connect a CAT-5 ethernet cable from the correct jack in the modem to the correct jack in the router. 3. If using a wired connection, connect an ethernet cable from the router to your computer. Otherwise, simply activate the wireless card of your computer and select from the available wireless networks.

  2. Plug one end of a phone cord or cable into the modem, and plug the other end into the wall jack. (DSL users: Do not use a DSL filter on the phone line.)

  3. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the modem, and plug the other end into the wide area network (WAN) port on the router.

  4. Plug the router into an electrical outlet.

  5. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the local area network (LAN) port on the router, and plug the other end into the networking port on the computer that you want to connect to the Internet. (If you are connecting wirelessly, skip this step.)

  6. Start (or restart) the computer.

My D-LINK 300 wireless router cannot braodcast the internet signal to my laptop computers, what are the step by step procedure that I have to take? Thank you very much hoping somebody can help me

Reset the router to factory default setting, press and hold the reset button for few seconds (It is at the back of the router near the DC Power Jack). The LEDs will then blink and the routers factory settings would be restored. Please note that, after resetting the router you should be able to see the router and connect to it via LAN Cable of Wirelessly as the router automatic assigns the IP Address and gateway etc. Before proceeding to the next step please make sure that you are getting the signals as well as internet. However, the internet connection would not be secure, which can be done later.

Now, all you have to do is connect to the router and secure the connection follow the following steps: -
First you have to access the router through web browser (Internet Explorer) by typing the IP address of your router in the address bar, which is 192.168.0.1 (Default router settings are written under the router)
(unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password "leave it blank") and lookup for the options to do the following: -
1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router
2. Change the default administrative user name and password
(The above step would prevent unauthorized access to your router)

Next step is to secure it:
1.On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Setup" 2.Under "Wireless Security Mode", select your desired encryption method (preferably WPA2-PSK)
3.Choose a Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length
4. Click Save Settings.
In the screen shot below I have highlighted the above mentioned options.
creativetech_20.jpg
Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.
Hope it helps! Good Luck!
Don't forget to convey your feedback and approciate the efforts.

Wht should i do to conenct to internet

1. Uninstall or disable all Internet-sharing applications, proxy software and security software such as anti-virus programs or firewalls. Although every program is different, if you choose to uninstall one, you can typically do so by clicking "Start," "Control Panel" and "Add/Remove Software" and then selecting the software you wish to remove. Because Homeportal 1000 comes with its own versions of these programs, this step is essential to avoid conflicts.

2. Connect Homeportal's AC power adapter to the back of your router, and then plug it into a power outlet. The green power light should come on.

3. Connect the router to your
computer. If you're using Ethernet, connect the Ethernet cable to both the router and the Ethernet jack on the back of your computer. If you plan to use USB, follow the same procedure using the USB cable and ports, instead. For a wireless connection, ensure that your wireless card is correctly installed on your PC.

4. Connect the phone cable to the back of your router and then plug it into a phone jack. This will allow the Homeportal 1000 to receive DSL signals from the phone company.

5. Place the Homeportal 1000 installation CD into your CD drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install the necessary software and until finish installation.

We are now ready to browse a website.

I recently purchased the D-Link Ethernet Broadband router DI 504M. I've followed the instructions provided twice, but it will not allow me to connect to the internet. I can connect to the internet with my...

it seems to be just settings for the new device your lacking.

log on to the router as ADMINISTRATOR,

Windows 2000/XP -

To release and renew IP address, go to Start > Run. Type in CMD and press Enter. At the prompt, type in ipconfig and press Enter. This will display the adapter information such as IP address, Subnet mask, and default gateway.

To view additional information such as Mac address, DNS servers, etc, type in ipconfig /all.

To release IP address, type ipconfig /release.

To renew IP address, type ipconfig /renew.

If you are not able to get an IP address try setting one statically:

Windows 2000

Step 1 Right-click on My Network Places and select Properties.

Step 2 Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your network card and select Properties.

Step 3 Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. Enter your IP information for your network.

If connecting to a router, make sure the default gateway and a DNS server is the IP address of the router (e.g. 192.168.0.1 or 10.1.1.1).

Windows XP

Step 4 Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network connections.

Step 5 See Step 2 for Windows 2000 and continue from there.

Hope this helps ,

I need help connecting a westell 7500 router/modem,i want to get a notebook on line. i didnt receive any intsructions.i need help connecting the westell 7500 to my pc and notebook thanking you.

Westell makes a line of broadband home networking products that enable residential customers and users in small businesses to access and share broadband services. These inexpensive DSL router/modems offer multi-users Internet LAN access for home or business applications. The Westell router/modems allow you to have the benefits of the "always on" high-speed broadband Internet connection without losing the ability to receive voice calls over the same phone line.
  1. Step 1 288254_thumb.jpg Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the computer's Ethernet port. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Westell router.
  2. Step 2 Connect the barrel end of the router's power cord to the connector labeled "12 v" on the back of the router. Plug the other end of the power cord into a wall outlet.
  3. Step 3 Connect one end of the DSL phone cable to the DSL line jack on the back of the router. Connect the other end to the wall jack.
  4. Step 4 Wait for the Ready and the Link LEDs to glow steady green. The router is now ready to use.

Router problems

Please answer the following questions --

Is this a new router installation?
IF so -
  • Who is your internet service provider?
  • If they are Cable TV based your wan side router configuration might be correct.
  • If they are Telco (phone line) based your wan side router configuration probably needs to be updated.
How is the connection wired
  • Starting with the cable tv coax or a phone wire plugged into a phone jack
  • Does this connect to a box provided by your service provider? (probably a modem/whatever box)
  • Does an ethernet cable (looks like a fat phone wire with wide connectors on the end ( 8 metal connection points) -- connect the modem to a single port not in a group on your router?
  • Does another ethernet cable connect one if the block of four ports to your computer?
If so you appear to be wired correctly
If not explain to be in the same order preferably how your equipment is wired.
After you reply I will provide additional steps.

Setup

Hooking up a router is often more that just hooking up cables. Some internet service providers ISP's (phone/cable/internet companies) have requirements to be configured into the router to allow for communication with their networks. Unless you are sure you understand the ISP's requirements perhaps you could provide a link to the ISP's support website or his name. Confirming the manufacturer and model of the router would be good too just in case the one in the heading of this message in incorrect. If you provide the required information in a comment to this message I will attempt to provide steps to hook up your router.

Generally starting with either a cable or a phone wire out of a phone jack a connection is made to a modem (often supplied by the ISP) the modem is generally connected with an ethernet cable to the wan side of a router and the router is connected from one of 4 lan ports with an ethernet cable to a computer's network adapter. There are variations on this cabling that substitute USB cables or Wireless communications.
