Question about Samsung SPN4235 42 in. Plasma HDTV

1 Answer

Samsung SPN4235 has a mind of its own

This problem started about 3 months ago and has gotten progressively worst. TV works fine when first turn on, then as it heats up the volume starts going up until it maxes out at 100. I did a temp fix by routing audio from dish box through external amp and speakers. That worked fine for about two weeks when suddenly the TV menu page started flashing on and off on the screen. At that point I would need to turn the set off until it cooled down for a few hours. During all this the button controls on the TV stopped working and I could only control the set via remote controller. Last night the set turned itself off and I could not get it to turn on again even with the remote. This morning I found the TV on, good picture but with the menu page flashing on an off again. I tried turning the set off with the remote but nothing happened, so I decided to try the power button on the TV. As I mentioned, that button hadn't worked for some time. Guess what, this time it worked and the set turned off.

My best guess is whichever board controls the set's buttons and infra-red sensor is bad or it has a an intermitten short sensitive to heat. If this is so, can you tell me the name of the board and where to get it. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Honestly, your TV should be still under warranty right?I would have Samsung fix it. TV had a serious problem from the beginning.

Samsung HLP6163W Problem- TV keeps turning off!

Well, I have had the same exact problem and since my hlp6163w is still under warranty, I had a technician come out to repair it. And...the winner is a bad ballast. The Ballast has also affected the bulb. So, the answer is you need to change the Ballast and the lamp to get the problem resolved. A faulty Ballast will always destroy a a lamp. Sorry for the bad news as this will cost you a total of $400.00 to replace. It sounds like there is a defect in the ballasts that were made for this particular set and a recall should be made. Hope this helps!
