Can't scan documents

Just moved and lost the cable that connected my printer to my pc during my move - went and bought a new one - can print - but cannot scan documents - error message "Port is disable. Ensure that port is properly connected & power is on, then restart computer"

I uninstalled all Samsung files and then re-installed

still can't scan - error message now "cannot open device"

Need to know what is wrong with my Samsung SCX-4100 - help please!

I am having the same issue where I am unable to scan documents using the Smarthru application. It first comes up with with "port is disabled. ensure that port is properly connected and power is on, then restart your computer" error message. After clicking okay on that it proceeds to the cannot open device error. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

For the system to work completely; you need the print driver, scan driver and smarthru4.

Once you install the scan driver (available on Samsung website); the issue will go away.

Also, another trick; instead of using the smart thru - which is kind of awkward, download Picasa 3 and if you have installed the scan driver correctly, you can use Picasa to import the scans by controlling the printer. It also allws for some other tweaks that are not so easy to get to in Smart Thru.

In addition to Picasa you can use several other graphic applications to scan the image.

Good luck.

THIS IS THE SOLUTION:

Samsung SCX-4100 is connected to te PC trough paralell port LPT. (not USB)

You must go in BIOS (most computers acces BIOS trough pressing DELETE-button during start) and select "Integrated Peripherals ", there you can see your LPT printer port.

If the port is disabled, enable it.

If already enabled, it is set to standart features. Highlight that settings, press ENTER and choose EPP/ECP feature.

Most parallel connected printers and scanners made since about the early 90's require EPP or ECP mode, or they aren't recognized as being connected at all, or you get strange error messages

Then press F10 for saving, then "y" for saving and exiting BIOS and the scanner will work for sure on your computer, too!

How do I set up the scanner on my HP J3680?

use the CD that came with the printer.it has the full feature software that will enable the printing and scanning capability of the printer.
- insert the disk in the CD-ROM drive - hit install - reminder:do not plug in the USB cable yet unless you are prompted by the installer to do so - after installing the software , make a test print to prove the functionality of the printer. - then we move on to test the scanner -there are two ways to make a scan: 1. click on the solution center icon on the desktop. 2. in the solution center , there are two buttons for scanning: scan pictures and scan document 3. scanned documents are saved under the MY SCANS folder. file path is : my documents or simply documents---->MY SCANS 4.for scanned pictures file path is
my pictures or simply pictures---->MY SCANS

Whenever i try to print anything my printer prints the first 5 lines or so and then just stops and moves on to the next page where it print the first 5 lines before giving up again.

What type of document are you trying to print(PDF, MS Word doc, etc)?
Is the printer connected via USB cable, Bluetooth?

First thing I would do is try printing a different document or even a different type of document.
If printing different documents results in the same problem then I would uninstall the current drivers, download the latest drivers from Canon, then install those drivers and try printing again.
Also, if the printer is connected to your computer via USB cable verify the cable has no exposed wiring or try a different USB cable.

When I unplug my 2610 printer to move it then plug it back in, it does not work. Twice before this happened and somehow I fixed it when it went to the print wizard. This time, I cannot fix it. I downloaded...

First disconnect the printers USB cable from the PC. Go to the control panel and open add or remove programs. Find the installed software for your 2610 printer and select to uninstall the software. When completed restart the PC. Install the latest software for your printer from HP.com and during the installation it should prompt you when its time to connect the printer. When prompted, connect the USB cable from the printer to the PC and power up the printer. You should see a message indicating that your computer has found new hardware and is installing the necessary software to complete the installation. Call HP support if these steps don't resolve the issue.

PSC 1315v won't print

When you go to scan and the power light flashes, that tells you your computer IS communicating with the printer, however it may not be a good connection. Below i described that more. If the connection is indeed fine, and you tried a second pc or re-installed software completely, then I would have to say the printer is dead to you. (ie. a chip on a logic board has failed). Please continue below.

Software may be at fault. Can you print a demo page on the printer? Generally it can be done without a computer connected even, just hold any large buttons on the front of the printer for a few seconds, lights should start flashing, and a test print should print. I bet it will, because you said it "copies without a gripe."

IF that works, maybe you can completely un-install the printer software from Add/Remove Programs, or you can install it on a second computer?

IF that does not make a difference, try a new USB cable if you can. OR See if the USB port on the back of the printer appears loose. Are you able to hold it upwards or downwards or move it around at an angle? You could print another page, and quickly hold the cable in, and pushed up at an angle, or pushed IN-AND-DOWN at an angle.

IF that can be confirmed, you would need a $1 store soldering iron and would have to take the printer apart, and heat-up the connections between the USB port and the logic board. Possibly need $3 of solder from radio shack or what not. Hope I
