It could be an internal fuse, or that the transformer is malfunctioning.

Before any dis-assembly/internal inspection, be sure that the unit in unplugged.

Good luck...

Suggestions for finding a short circuit

Hi, John first perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for a drop in amperage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
5. Hook up a voltmeter to the battery and start the engine, if meter falls below 9.0 volts while cranking you need to perform a proper load test on the battery and replace if necessary.
6. With the engine running at 3600 RPM, the battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
7. Unplug the voltage regulator from the alternator at crankcase by the front of the primary cover.
8. To test voltage regulator go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
9. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace the stator.
10. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace the stator.
11. With the voltmeter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace the rotor.

Have replaced alternator and battery as they both went bad. The new alternator is putting out 14 volts when tested. When in the car and the air and lights are on it drops below 12v. Put in two new...

i suggest that you drive it to an auto parts store that checks your charging system for free, advanced auto auto zone etc.etc.,there testers give the most acurate readings .as you turn on a/c light the voltage will drop from 14 from my limited knowledge on electical i think at an idle its okay as long as the voltage stays above 9.6 while under load for 15 seconds .but those guys there know the right stuff

Only when i come to a complete stop, while in drive, the battery and emergency break ligt come on...

Idle is to low,or the alternator is not charging enough. It needs to be 13.65 volts,to 14.25 volts at the battery with the lights on,and high blower on.If it is lower than this, replace the alternator.

What should be the percentage of the battery when its fully charged on an aprilia 125 rs

If the system is 12 volt, which I think it is, a new battery should read 13+ volts fully charged. Note! You can have 12 volts, but low amps. You need to ideally charge the battery and put a load tester on it to know the truth about the condition of the battery. Chaz Moto DC

Checking batteries

I assume a "DM-350a" is some kind of a digital multimeter. I Googled and found it might be a "A.W. Sperry DM350A 5 Function 17 Range Digital Multimeter" and looking at the ranges available on that meter, you can't really thest the battery "under load" the only reasonable way to test small batteries. the DC current only goes up to 200 milli amperes. A "C" or "D" size flashlight battery puts out 1 to 4 amps depending on conditions. That's 5 to 20 times the current readable by that meter. The volts on one of those batteries is probably 1.6 volts to 1.3 volts etc. If you live in the United States, I'd say go to Radio Shack and spend $5 to $15 and buy a battery tester like "Enercell Analog 9-Range Battery Checker, $14.99, Model 22-156, catalog # 22-156"
Then you and anyone in your family can read the instructions and test 8 or 9 different type batteries. Battery types: 1.5V button-cells, "AAA"/"N"/"AA"/"C"/"D", 6V, 9V, 12V, 15V and 22.5V..
This is not supposed to be an advertizement, and I have no interest in RadioShack,... but it's supposed to be instructional.

Small price, Good instruction to anyone who can read, and if anyone forgets, they can re-read. Testing a lot of batteries in a sitting goes very fast with these.

Differently, with the sperry, or any voltmeter, you'd have to select a resistor small enough to draw the current, and large enough not to overheat or burn, connect it and measure the loaded voltage drop, compare the voltage and current of the loaded battery, and compare it to that of a new battery, and a battery you might consider too weak for your application.. Voltage equals amps times resistance, and power equals amps squared times resistance... Really, buy a battery tester.

Volt gage drops when not accelerating, replaced battery and altenator, its running worse now

What are the voltage readings?
Voltage may drop when idling and a larger voltage drop can be present when a large load (amp draw)is present on the alt.
A low charged battery is a large load.
Operating accessories is a large load.
A slow spinning (idling) alt will not put out it's max output.
This would be normal.

We like to see.....above 12.7V at idle....max 15V.......
.......and a min of 13.5V to a max of 15V at higher engine speed.
If you are with-in this.......don't worry about it.

Engine wont turn over and I checked battery voltage I don't think it's the battery but what else can it be>>>??? Please help

you need to check the battery voltage under a load..(load test) if you battery drops to below 10 volts while under load it will need to be replaced.. if it is ok, check your battery cables for good clean connections and make sure they are tight..if that is all ok, move on to check starter
