Where to find replacement Diamond Shield at reasonable price

My granddaughter decided to draw on our screen with a paper clip and now the diamond shield has scratches all over it. Where can I find one so I can replace it myself. The coating on the Diamond shield is coming off and I need to replace it. Mitsubishi does not make or carry the part any more. Does anyone know where to get one?

    They do not carry it.

  • bldrno1 Aug 01, 2008

i would rather pay for a replacement. since it is an optical product, a filler would not be very practical.

  • bldrno1 Aug 01, 2008

    none of those solutions work.

  • bldrno1 Aug 06, 2008

You can find anti scratch, anti glare, and anti reflective coatings here: http://www.tspinc.com/anti-glare.html
Then apply them to a thin lexan, plexi, or mylar shield to solve this issue.

Just a thought- call a windshield repair business and check with them. I know they do some diamond shield repair . I know you mentioned that you prefer a replacement. They may beable to do that as well. I'd give a few a call. Good luck to you!

Altenately, you could search the thrift stores for the same monitor and use it for replacement parts. I don't know what is available to you, but in our area, we have Good Will Industries wihich carries an enormous amount of electronics. We also have a free classifieds publication in our area which is very popular, just for this type of thing. You might check to see if there is something similar close to you.

Hi-

Try this first

how to fix your scratched LCD monitor after a scarring encounter with a sharp object. Two different methods for addressing the LCD scratches, from a temporary fix involving a little petroleum jelly to a more difficult but permanent solution that involves removing the scratch and re-lacquering your monitor.

if all fails, call manufacturer and ask for their parts distributor instead for you to get the exact model type of the LCD you want.

Thanks for using Fixya!

If what I'm reading about the diamond shield is correct, this is nothing more than a Lexan screen protector. Since Mitsubishi has discontinued the model you have and it seemingly can't be found, I suggest that you make your own. Lexan is merely a high quality Plexiglas that is more durable, scratch resistant, and has a better visual quality. It's commonly used for motorcycle windshields. You can purchase Lexan at various hardware stores in the required thickness, and cut to the dimension you need. This should work fine, and will be less costly and time consuming than finding the diamond shield.

Bldrno1,i have done some research for you and its very hard to come up with one,ive googled and yahooed replacement screens and have found tht some kits cost 500 bucks.I would try a filler for plastics or cars for scratches and see if this helps as the screen is already damaged.Another idea is to find a broken t.v. from someone and buy it cheap and swap screens.

Diamond Shield for Mitsubishi VS45605

Unless you have small children it's better to just remove the diamond shield and throw it away. Less glare on the screen that way. But if you must have a new one go to a local glass shop and have a piece of plexiglass cut to the dimensions of the old one. We do that all the time and it works fine. Usually runs around $60.00.

It seems these TV's are going bad right and left. I would look on Craig’s list for a cheap/free 55" Diamond TV. Not sure what you would do with the left over TV. I just picked up a 55" Diamond for free and hope to fix it. If I don’t get it to work, you can have the screen (California).

My Mitsubishi Diamond Sheild also had scratches on it, and I solved the problem at no cost by taking some automotive wax, and hand-polishing the shield with a smooth rag (old t-shirt works great!) Leave it right on the television, no need to take it off.

HINT: Don't leave wax on too long, and just do a small section at a time.

Behind plastic screen looks to have dust on it

That front screen is what Mitsubshi calls the Diamond shield. Every set is differant but easy to do. Look carefully at the top and the bottom or the lrft and the right, fr clips that run the entire lenth of the top and the bottom or the entire lenth or the right or the left side. They bsimply snap into place. Mitsubishi says to gently insert a small screwdriverbetween the diamond shield and one end of each on of the two clips and gently pull off the clip. Good Luck
