Question about Kirby G5 Bagged Upright Vacuum

Bobbing up and down?

Hello! My stepmother's G5 bobs up and down when pushed certain directions on the carpet. She has tried to adjust the height when this happens, but it's as though the highest height keeps this from happening. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Its more than likely the pile of the carpet is a little tighter in some areas of the carpet than it is in others. and, then you have to concider the grain of the carpet. I know your going GRAIN ?? what the ??? and scratching your head but yes even carpet has a grain. mine does the same thing and i have noticed that when i change directions over the same area it will not bob.

The beater brush will no longer drive under a load on short pile carpet

Have you tried changing the height adjustment? There should be a knob or lever that allows you to adjust the height of the beater brush to accommodate different carpet lengths. Even with a new belt, the brush will not spin if the height is too low. Try adjusting it all the way up, then while it is running, adjust it down until there is some resistance. The beater brush should just barely scrape the top of your carpet.

Suction is great. However, it is very hard to push on carpet. Can this be adjusted?

Hi, this is Jim with Crucial Vacuum,

I'm unsure as to the make and model of your vacuum, but many different vacuums have height adjustments, and various carpet modes to make it easier when vacuuming. These adjustment options should be clearly labeled somewhere on your vacuum.

For instance, if you have the adjusted height set to low the brushroll will experience more resistance from the carpet and be harder to push. You can find these settings and their full functionality in your vacuums manual.

Why Vacuum suction too strong and can't push

Sometimes vacuums are adjustable as to how far down they sit. Some, if all the way down, are too close to certain carpets which has them getting sucked/stuck in place. I'm not familiar with your vacuum, but you might check the height setting.

Height adjustment does not work

Hello! The vacuum does not move up and down when you change the height setting. When the handle is reclined is when the height of the nozzle will adjust. Hope this was helpful!

How do I adjust the power cam locationpower cam on a dc27

Hi Charles, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC27 is engineered to adjust automatically for different floor types - there is no way of manually adjusting the height of the wheels or brush bar. The vacuum may need higher push force on certain types of deep pile carpeting. We would recommend checking directly with the carpet manufacturer for their advice on caring for this particular carpeting - manfacturers may recommend vacuuming some carpets with the brush bar turned off, and it may be worth giving this a try.

To turn off the brush bar, just use the brush control switch next to the red on/off switch:

We love our Dyson DC25 Animal but we just got new carpet and it's like pushing furniture around the room. I know it doesn't have a height adjustment but is there any other option?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your DC25 Animal on this particular type of carpeting. This sounds unusual especially as it worked effectively on your older carpeting. As DC25 is engineered to adjust automatically to different floor types and pile heights, there is unlikely to be an issue with the vacuum itself.

It may be worth checking directly with the carpet manufacturer for their guidance on caring for this specific type of flooring. Manufacturers will sometimes recommend vacuuming certain types of long-pile or delicate carpeting with the motorised brush bar turned off.

If you'd like any further guidance from our experts, you can reach us by calling the Dyson Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Adjust height for plush carpet

The best solution is to change your method of trying to push the vacuum. The more upright the handle is on an Oreck, the harder it will be to push. The lower the angle (the closer the handle is to the carpet) the easier it will be to push. There will be a huge difference. Use a straight stiff arm that is pointed directly down towards the carpet. Use your shoulder and have a near locked elbow. The vacuum will now push easily.

It is hard to move forward when vacuuming, ok when moving back

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It sounds like you have a Kirby vacuum and there are a few things you may want to try. #1. Change the belt on the vacuum every 4 to 6 months for the best cleaning and the belt also helps you with the movement, and to store the extra belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. #2. There is an adjustment on the brushroll on each end of the brushroll by turning the screw heads and ½ to 1/3rd turn on each side. #3. if the belt is changed and the brushroll has been adjusted then on the height adjustment, try this… raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then adjust is down one step @ a time until you hear the tone change, that is when the brush hits the carpet and the vacuum head creates a seal. Then try to vacuum the carpet – if you feel like it is doing a good job then you have got it adjusted correctly, if not adjustment one more down and the setting should be complete. If the setting is all the way down on the floor the vacuum cannot do its job properly. Also it a good idea to change the vacuum cleaner bag; and to clean the inside of the cloth bag. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
