I have the same problem. But the noise is not high pitched squeal as stated by 22yooper. And why would turning on the frig door switch affect the freezer section (which is in a separate compartment from the frig and it's doors)

Freezer section evaporator fan motor bearing are going out. This would be indicted by a high pitched squealing noise. Have the fan motor replaced and it should solve your problem.

the motor is suppose to stop when the door opens and turns on when closing the noise could be ice building up and the fun blade rubbing the ice if unit is empty you should leave the unit disconnected so ice melts and noise will go away when reconnecting if no motor replacement is needed.

You have a frozen drain tube. Remove the back cover after unplugging the unit. Locate the drain tube running down to the drip pan. If it is frozen, thew it with a hair dryer. Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

Fridge motor is loud when doors closed stops when open-3.5 yrs old- first time same problem fixed with replacing sensor 2/08 now sensor broken again???

the fan goes off when door opened and when closes it will turn back on is normal operation of fan and door control --as to noise --fan may be failing ---iced over ----if seal failing will cause unit to run more and allows more moisture into evap which can cause more ice over
