My dometic refrigerator/freezer all of a sudden, stopped working. It will not work on elec or gas. Is there anything I can check before having to spend $ to find out it could be a small item I could have done myself?

If I remember right on those, the system works off 12 volt--120 volt-- or propane (LP gas). have you tried one of the other power source to run it off of?? If you get the same type cooling results the problem is probably a small leak in the freon system. Those use special internal gas. When I worked for GE the only way to fix them was to replace the complete cooling system which came pre-charged with the special internal gas. Quite expensive after the warranty. Now if you switch power source and one of the other sources make it work the problem will be with the type power you were using when it failed to cool properly. Many people that had system problems with those camper type refrigerators removed them and installed a small regular dorm style refrigerator that could only be run off a 120 volt power system. You would need a 12 volt to 120 converter to run it while on the road if thats what you want to do.
what is the yellow residue around heating element? my fridge just isnt working right and sometimes stops all together, the freezer worked until lastnight but fridge hasnt cooled right for a week or so.
change the filter. to do this recover the freon(gas), remove the filter , replace it by new one; do the vacuum and then charge again. Work must be done by a certified technician. do that at your own risk
Sounds like the evaporator fan is not working. Check to see if you can hear the fan running in the freezer. If not running, try removing the panel in the back of the inside freezer and manually spin the fan blade . This sometimes works.
Make sure the thermister is attached firmly to the fins in the back. The boards on a Norcold can be reset a service center familiar with this process is your best bet. It takes disconecting the board and then shorting it out best to leave it to some one who is familiar.
