V Reg Chrysler (auto). My car is revving too much and it doesn't always change up to the fourth gear. Could it be that I need to change the air filter or is it something more serious ie. I need to get a new gearbox?

Have you tried shutting it off and trying again? I know that the transmission computer has to go thru a relearn procedure. Without it moving at all is a bid worry some.

Check for a vacuum leak. Rubber hoses which do not carry any liquids, but provide a vacuum feed for various purposes.
One such purpose is the brake power booster. A loss of vacuum 'pressure' will affect braking performance and also idle speeds of engine. These are affected more so when engine is relatively cool, improving some when warmed up.

Vacuum tubes/hoses are usually connected to the intake manifold or the mass air flow sensor. The round metal part between the air filter and the intake manifold is the mass air sensor.
Look for tubes which have come loose or worn open or just cracked and dry rotted. Sometimes you can cut the tip off and reseat the tube. Otherwise just replace it. Any auto parts store will have what you need.

Have you checked the fluid level? May need transmission service due to plugged fluid intake filter, or badly worn third gear clutch.

sounds like fuel pressure reg on fuel-line

sounds like it is in limp mode, this is the trans way of preventing further damage. You need to take it to trans shop for diagnostic

YES MATE THERE IS SUCH A THING ITS CALLED THE EGR VALVE .all it supposed to do is pick the revs up when you are using more electrical power rear heated sreen etc dont bother clean it easier to change it or it will re occur

the gear box needs a service the gsaket and oil and bands retightened
or its on the way out
