Hi. I realize that this is a little late but I'd like to ask a
question. I recently purchased one of the HCL4715W Samsung TV's used,
stated that the TV worked, but the power cord needed replacement. I
simple clipped a cord from an old 13" TV and wired it in. I can hear a
high pitched whine and a few clicks, then a quick mild pop in a
speaker, then the unit stops. No picture, and the front light blinks
several times. I tried reversing the cable, thinking I mismatched
ground and lead, but no dice. Do you have any advice on what I should
do or anything that usually goes wrong with these units? I'd like to
have it/repair it myself, but I'm not sure if the tubes are any good,
so I'd rather not drop a large amount of $ right off the bat until I
can see the picture. Catch 22 I guess. Anyway, I don't think I can
remove the box with the components in it, so I will have to transport
the entire unit to the repair shop, if so, I will probably just sell as
is. Anyway, thanks for reading, if you can help I'd appreciate it.

This is very common in Samsung DLPs. The DMD board is going bad. You will need to replace it.

have you checked the pico fuses on the bottom side of the PC board? They are small ceramic fuses soldered directly to the runners. They have been known to blow and your set will not power up. Hope this helps, if you need anything further let me know. Also sometimes the 1000uf caps don't show any signs of swelling but can still be bad.

Will Not Turn On

First you need to do a self test diagnosis and then if it comes up with:
SELF-DIAGNOSIS ERROR 23 OR 24. CHECK SOLDER CONNECTIONS AT CONNECTOR "DY" ON THE YOKES. 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF-DIAGNOSIS ERROR 23 OR 24. CHECK C411 2200 UFD 35 V AND C412 10 UFD 50 V, BOTH LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB
Do self test by pressing Input/Device and Menu at the same time for 5 sec. the set will show a 2 digit seq. first blinks followed by a short pause then the second.
