You will need to try a recovery disk or a working version on windows XP or Vista to boot from and repair, or format hard drive.

How do I make my computer boot up faster?

you cannot the list during boot up as that is the procedure that the bios follows so best not see it
next replace the old disc hard drive with a new solid state hard drive
next remove unwanted/ used icons from desk top
next add another strip of ram
lastly use a clean up program and then defrag the hard drive
use a good security program (kaspersky) to remove hidden virus and malware
I had a solid state drive installed and it cut the start up time to around 45 seconds from around 3 minutes
Take this list of suggestions to a IT geek shop that fixes computers and discuss it

Having had my damn Dell Computer Scammed a few weeks ago I now have hundreds of virus's on my windows XP System. I realise it is out of date and I took the chance of changing our broadband connection so as...

Depending on the desktop you could add a new hard drive and make it the OS/Boot drive with Win 7. Your old drive with the pictures on it will become a data drive. If you don't know how to make the new drive the boot drive or the desktop does not have room for a 2nd drive it might be a lot easier to take the old drive and put it in a USB external enclosure.

Malwarebytes is good cleanup utility.

Do not use IE, to many vulnerabilities, Chrome of Firefox is better..

Not sure the connection between changing broadband providers and passwords.....

Old Dell Optiplex GX100, hard drive trouble.

RAM could be bad, generally when its doing a dump, ram is bad. Although it could actually be the hard drive itself. Give both a test

Acer M1100 Desktop w/ a different HDD and Optical will not boot

Disconnect the hard drive and dvd from the motherboard
Power on
If you get video and cmos access power off and connect dvd
repeat and connect hard drive
getting video and cmos access has nothing to do with the hard drive...with no hard drive or optical drive you still would have access to cmos
go 1 step at a time to find bottle neck

MY PC WONT COME ON THE SCREEN IS BLACK

The mother board has a battery if thats the one you took out you reset the bios, Try pressing the delete simutanuosanly after turning on the computer then in the bios goto boot device priority and select your hard drive press f10 which is the save and exit. Try turning on your pc again and see if it boots off the hard drive make sure you give the computer time to re-boot itself after you change the setting in the bios.

Sony Vaio desktop will not load windows

what your describing is a hard disk failure the computer cant or wont read the hard disk to boot the machine, so it shuts down. Sounds like the hard disk died from a bad virus. and the computer wont run. Best I can do for you is either format the Hard disk and reinstall the operating system or buy a new hard disk. Cheers

When I attempt to log on to my computer, I get message "Loading personal settings", but it immediately changes to "Logging off"...I can't even log on.....HELP!!! I am using an emachines w4685....

Hi,
My Name is ArmyMason, I am here to help you. Are you seeing any flash of Blue Screen before it reboots? If not it sounds like you have a boot virus. If you can't boot to Safe Mode best the way to fix this is to pull out the hard drive and put it into another computer that has up to date Antivirus. On the hard drive are pins with a little plastic piece attached to them above that should be a diagram SL = Slave, MS = Master, CS = Cable Select. Depending on the Setting the persons harddrive that is in the computer you are about to put that Hard Drive into depends on the setting you need for your Hard Drive. So remember or right down the setting of your hard drive. If there hard drive is set to Master set your hard drive to slave. If there hard drive is set to Cable Select set yours to Calbe select. With the computer off and unplugged, locate the cable that the hard drive is connected to and take your hard drive and connect it to the second connector which is in the middle of the cable. This is where all slave hard drives go. Note: Dont worry you wont infect the host computer with a virus, because its not an active partition. <--- techy info... Now boot the computer and once the Hard Drive is detected run the Antivirus program on that drive.

There are other solutions, but this is one way you can remove the virus without having to format your computer and start over. If its a Blue Screen please make a post with blue screen issues so that we can figure out exactly what the error is.

Old Hard Drive Installation as 2nd Drive

First check your boot sequences. If you want to get it to boot from the defuct PCs HDD you will need to see which is booting first. Bios will remember the actual hard ware by serial etc, not by which is master and slave.

If you just want to run the programs off that drive, then are you running windows?

check out the computer management tools (found in the administrator tools section of the control panel) and there you should be able to use disk management to see what drives are there.

Here you can change drive letters and will be able to see if the drives are being picked up by windows

dumping of of your hard drive is so expensive, you canstill use that what you need is to install anti viruses but if your operating system is alredy been affected you need to reformat this. in formatting you need to configure your bios by starting the 1st boot device must be the cd rom. your xpcd must be in the cd rom once restarted after the bios configuration in order to start your operation and to reformat your hard disk. just follow the instructions you'll see in your monitor you'll succeed in your reformatting this. if you have some queries feel free to e-mail me and i will guide you.
