Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

How do I get my Comcast Cable modem to accept more than one IP address at once?

I have a Comcast Cable service, and use a wireless router. I have trouble trying to connect more than one computer to the Internet. I have to unplug and reset each time I want to switch computers and continue using the Internet. Is there a setting I'm missing?

Go to your admin settings on your router. Make sure that the wireless is turned on. Put in an id for your wireless ID to something that is unique. By default it is listed as linksys. Change it to something else in case another signal is using the same id.

Scan for the network on both computers and see whe

Do you have a WEP encryption system turned on?

I was banging my head for 2 days with about 35 different configurations and finally tried the following and it worked just fine. Also, tried connecting 3 computers and they all connected with "NO" issues. Even connected wireless with "NO" issues. Now I am at 20mb download speed...J compared to AT&T 1.5mb download speed.

This is my DLINK model -> (DIR-601 Wireless N 150 Home Router Wireless router)

1. Reset your Comcast Surfboard Cable Modem by unplugging it for 5 minutes.

2. Then reset your DLINK Router to the manufactures default settings. Then Unplug DLINK Router for 1 minute then plug it back in (Just plug your cat5 cable into port 1 and connect it to your computer) there should not be anything else plugged into the DLINK Router at the time you make the changes. Just 1 computer can be connected.

3. Went into the DLINK configuration 192.168.0.1 and changed the PPPOE setting that I was using for my AT&T Modem to Dynamic IP (DHCP). Once you make the changes save them and then unplug your DLINK Router it's off.

4. Turn on Comcast Surfboard Cable Modem and wait until all lights are on. Now plug in a cat5 cable from the Surfboard Comcast modem (NOT A CROSSOVER CABLE LIKE THE CD INDICATES) to the INTERNET port of your DLINK Router. Now turn on your DLINK router.

5. Then turn on your computers or restart them and it will pick up IP Addresses from your DLINK Router

Netgear wireless router

Most likely the router is not configured for dhcp or is not renewing to pull an address from your new provider. You will need to login to the router and check the WAN ip address settings. Choose dynamic ip address (it may be currently set for for static or another option based on your previous provider). Once you choose and save the settings, click to renew the WAN ip. If you were already set for DHCP and the address is correct, you may still have an issue with DNS,.. the DNS addresses may be incorrect or non existent. If you have doubts about DNS addresses,.. you may change them to 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 (opendns) and they will work with most providers (including comcast)
I hope this helps,.. if you need details,.. please leave a comment and I can supply more.

How can I my up my comcast netgear modems wireless to work? when I try my PS3 it detects a sginal but wont obtain an IP address. The same with my lap top.

You have to change the ipddress on the router different then the modem. For example 192.168.9.1 and leave the modems ip alone. Plug the cable into the Lan port of the router. Go to the setup screen on the router and tell give your username and password that
Comcast gives you. You will need comcast gateway address and dns numbers. There will be a connect button on the router and tell it connect it to the modem. You are trying to let the router receive that only ip address.

If ur isp is a dsl normaly they give u a username and password to connect to the internet, ur settings on the router should be PPPoe 6. If ur isp gives u a static ip address settings, u need to set the router to isp setup. a. how to check the isp of the isp given to u.. 1. click on start 2. run 3. type cmd 4. it will show a dos prompt 5. from the dos prompt type ipconfig/all 6. it will list the ip address, subnet, default gateway, dns server this settings should be type in to the settings on the router for static ip addressing.. 7. Once your done on the internet setting, go to your wireless connection settings and you can create a wireless network name or ssid, set a security by selecting wep, wpa, wpa2. 8. once all is set. save the settings and to check if your laptop can access the wireless network that you did, turn on the wireless switch of your laptop, once its on, it will show the wireless network icon on the lower right of the taskbar, right click it and select on view available network, the network name that u did should list, just select it and connect and it will ask for the password, just type the password and connect, you should be connected to the wireless network and have internet access.. 9. BelkinMIMO wireless router stopped connecting to internet

I just installed a Belkin N1 (model F5D8635-4 v1000) to a Comcast Arris modem in SW Florida by resetting the IP on the router to 192.168.1.1 Comcast assigns 198.168.0.1 (but will accept 192.168.1.1 however not .2.1) and Belkin default is 192.168.2.1. Problem is easy enough to correct by following the instructions for changing the default router IP using a Firefox interface as documented in the user's manual. Note that when applying changes it takes about 30 seconds for changes to be effective.

Surfboard Cablemodem not communicating with Belkin Wireless Routr

If the modem is actually passing out DHCP, then you have to connect the modem to the router 4 port lan side and not the wan port. Give the router a static ip like 192.168.1.2 and you can talk to it and configure the wireless features.

Netgear wgt624 just stopped connecting to internet

I encountered the same problem, with the same modem and also Comcast, and here's what wound up working for me, after time spent with a nice guy on the Netgear customer support line:

1. Log into router: http://192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1) - user: admin / password: password

2. Under Maintenance, click Router Status. If IP Address is listed as 0.0.0.0, there's your problem-- router isn't getting address from modem.

3. At bottom of Basic Settings, under Router MAC Address, change selection from Use Default Address to Use Computer MAC Address.

4. Click Apply.

5. Click Router Status again-- non-blank IP address should now be listed.

6. Basic Settings will now show MAC address under Use This MAC Address. See if you can get online now. I could, and I hope you can, too!

Arimex comcast router won't talk to belkin wireless g plus mimo router

Comcast has a little known "trick" that they use when setting up users. Here's how it works:

When Comcast first comes to setup your new cable modem service, they insist on connecting it to your computer and "testing" it. Most people think nothing of it, and that it's good customer service ...truth be told, what they are doing is attaching your computer's MAC address to that cable modem, so that you cannot create a wireless network. This is because they want you to pay them $150 to do this for you.

In this situation, since the modem is a modem/wireless router in one, my guess is that the MAC address on your machine now does not match the MAC address on the new router, which is what Comcast has stored in their database(s).

Try this: on your computer (while connected to the modem), perform a release on your IP address (start, run, cmd, then type "ipconfig /release"). Disconnect the ethernet cable from the computer. Turn computer off completely. Hold down the reset button on the cable modem until it performs a reset. Once it's back up and running, boot up your computer with the cable back in the ethernet port.

The cable modem should assign a new address to your computer. However, that may or may not work ...this is an easy workaround with a Linksys router, but not necessarily with the all-in-one devices.

Worst case scenario: contact Comcast and notify them that the new modem is not recognizing your computer's MAC address and that it needs to be updated in their system. They will scan your computer (through the telnet interface on your modem) and get your computer's MAC address, then (hopefully) make the necessary changes on their end.

After that, everything should work flawlessly. If not, insist on a Comcast tech to "fix" the service that you are paying for.

Good luck - hope this helps :)

Connecting to internet

Ok, cable (coax) comes in from wall and attaches to modem. Ethernet cable goes from modem to WAN Port of router. You may have to reboot both devices to ensure that your modem (internet service provider) assigns IP address to your router. If PC is close enough, attach new ethernet cable from one of the 4 ports on your router down to your PC's ethernet adapter. (where your modem used to plug into). Router will now assign an IP address to your PC and you should be able to access the www.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any more questions.
