Michael, There are several free DVD burning software that will work I will give you three of the most popular and links to down load them. They all have graphical user interfaces that help guide you threw the process.

1) Final Burner "Free Edition" - Its a free and easy to use, simple interface.(Click Here)

2) CDBurner XP - Is another free CD/DVD burner with a simple interface (Click Here)

3) ImgBurn - A good and very popular burning software (Click Here)

The benefit of these software application versus paid application is primarily the free cost, but there operation is usually simple and straight forward. Any one of these applications should help you achieve what your looking to do. Plus, all of these have good follow up support from online resources, and you tube.

Hope this helps address your problem, and best luck to you!

I have Magnavox DVD player/vcr DV225MG9, does it record from vhs onto dvds? And if not, what do I need to get so that I can copy all of these old vhs movies to dvds?

it won't record dvd's its only a dvd player. only the vcr records
if the vhs movies your trying to record are movies like star wars and stuff like that it's copy protected and no worth the trouble. if it's home movies or something you recorded from tv they might work. if you get a dvd recorder/vhs player.

Have a dvd-rv32 player. i want to burn home movies on dvds and then play in dvd player. what type of blank dvds do i need to buy?

Choose DVD-R (as opposed to DVD+R). The brand name won't matter, as long as they're obviously not unreliable rip-offs.

I copied old vhs home movies to dvd and they wont play on any dvd player

Whether the movies would play or not depends on the format in which it was copied to the DVD. It is good for you to know that DVDs have their specific format that they work with.
Burning a media file onto a DVD disc without regarding the format would render it unable to play on any DVD player.
This may be the cause of your problem. You have to take it someone who is a professional in this field and ask him to help you re-convert or dub them into the DVD disc.
Hope this was helpful?

I just used Windows Movie Maker to convert my .avi movie files from my Nokia onto a DVD. WMM burned the files succesfully and the DVD plays fine on my computer's DVD burner, but WMM is supposed to finalize...

Movie Maker is NOT the software you want for this process :D I tried a few years back as did my friend but it didn't work. Movie maker is ver basic and designed to teach children basic slideshow/video techniques. Try installing the free trial of Corel Video Studio Pro x3, this can make propper dvds, and also makes your files HD.

Does this burn dvds of vhs movies

A CD has less than a quarter of the data capacity of a dvd and so a video CD is only suitable for short films unless the movie is converted into another format; Ogg or Mp4 for instance. In such a format a CD will hold a movie but often the quality is poor and disappointing.

My dvd driive in my computer won't play dvds

Do you mean DVD movies wont play? If so you need to install DVD software. Use Google to search for some or buy some e.g. PowerDVD.

DVD / CD - RW Combo

When you say you cannot burn DVD's, do you mean you cannot burn DVD movies or do you mean you cannot burn data files to a DVD?

Burning DVD movies requires specific software to transcode the video and create a directory structure that DVD's players expect.

When you try to burn DVD's does it produce an error? What software are you using to burn?

Play dvd movies

Its not your CPU speed that burns or Views DVD its the actual player in your computer. You may have a CD player in your computer but can it actually read DVD? can it burn DVD???. If it can then you will need the software to play it back Windows media player wont play back DVD unless you have download the updated codex for it. One of the best software players is InterVideo Win DVD.
