Check the dvice manager to see if all the drivers are there. Any device needing drivers will have a yellow question mark on it. If you need drivers follow the link bellow. I know it says Compaq, but when you type in Pavilion it will redirect you to the proper page. HP & Compaq merged.

Minimize Number of Programs atStart-Up
If you are running too many programsat start-up this can be a cause of Windows Vista running slowly. So try tominimize the number of programs running at start-up. Follow these steps todisable start-up programs.
1. Click Start 2. Select Run 3. In the dialog box type MsConfig 4. Press Enter, a pop-up window will appear on your screen 5. Click on Start-up 6. Uncheck unwanted services and programs from startup 7. Press OK 8. Restart your PC
Increase System Memory
Most of us ignore the issue ofmemory when Windows Vista runs so slow. Many old computers came with 512 MB ofRAM and on such PC's Windows XP runs well but if you want to run Windows Vistaon such a PC you should have at least 1 GB of RAM for smooth performance.
Clean Out Viruses
While surfing the internet somemalicious applications are downloaded and installed automatically in oursystem. These malicious applications decrease the performance of any operatingsystem, Windows Vista run so slow due to these infected files. To get rid ofthese malicious applications you must download and install a powerful Virus andSpyware cleaner. Run a full PC virus scan and remove all the viruses, malwareand other infected files.
Clean Out Registry
Windows registry contains registrykeys of all the applications that you run on your PC and there are some entriesthat result in corruption in the registry. Corrupt registry problem cannot befixed by scanning your PC for viruses and spy-wares because registry errorscannot be detected by antivirus. For this you need a good registry cleaner andPC optimizer such as reginout.
Dear the drivers which u have for vista for eg LAN / SOUND/ CHIPSET they all are common for any operating system ur load...............so don't take tension install xp & load the drivers.........................Sameeraryan
There several possible reasons why your computer reboot after getting to the windows screen. one is a corrupt or incompatible driver that was installed on your system, try to boot on safe mode(press F8 during the POST(power on self test) for newer computer this will come as a flash on your screen, when you are being prompted how to you want to start windows just the safe mode then check if your computer will start up properly if it is then a driver or an application may have cause the boot problem try to perform a system restore and put the state back when it was working properly you can check out this link if your problem will fall on one of the following problem http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm
Now if safe modem will not fix the problem, the boot.ini maybe corrupted, check this link on how to re-install/fix corrupted boot.ini http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330184 this process requires your Windows installation CD.
Hope this will help you solve your start up problem with your computer.
First ensure that the problem you have explained is due to a VIRUS or Laptop related.Remove the hard drive from your laptop and turn it ON and check if it remains ON until you SWITCH OFF, if yes then you could install MS Win XP or any OS supported and download the drivers for the OS from the manufacturer's web site and install them all one by one . It definitely would work
