Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

1 Answer

Passcode issues I set up my system a couple of years ago, no problem and no passcodes. Another customer at the store I purchased it from worked for BellSouth DSL and told me not to use the setup disk to use my router. Instead they told me to call up DSL customer support. I did and they helped me. However, I had no clue how to protect myself. Stupid me! I live in a condo, so there are some other people close to me that can use my wireless. I really didn't care at the time, but now other people have moved in and a new condo project was just completed next to me too. Someone changed my security setting on my router and now my husband and I could not get connected last night. I was connected during the day yesterday. Help! What do I do?

You can still change the password for the wireless. Do you have a computer that is directly connected to the router (wired)?

This link can help you create your own password for the wireless network. But I recommend that you do the steps on this link on a wired computer. click here.

I can not remember my Wi Fi password and can not access internet .... please help me ... I have to create one that worked Wi Fi

If you mean you can't remember your WEP/WPA passcode then that can be fixed by accessing the compute through a lan line (ethernet) and just reconfigure it for a new passcode. If you mean you can't remember the code TO the router then you can always press the reset button on the back of the device for ~5 sec and reset it that way. A lot of standard (factory setting) passcodes are password with a login of admin

My husband received a brand new Dell computer today and he cannot get it connected with the router that we have. What should I do because he is making me want to rip all of my hair out. Help?

well, you will want to make sure that you have access to the network password if you have one set. Most issues i've ever had with connecting to any router has been an incorrect security setting.
1. make sure that you know the security type (ie: WEP, WPA, WPA2)
2.once you have been able to verify that, get the password for the router (if you haven't modified the passcode it is typically printed on the device).

KEEP IN MIND:
you have to know the case of the passcode. these passcodes are case sensitive, and one character off will cause it to not work.

3.make sure that in the dialogue on the computer being used, that the security settings being used in the setup are the same as the ones the router uses.
4.make sure u enter the passcode exactly the same way as it is set in the router. passcodes are case sensitive.

If there are any issues, it is probably a nuance in the software on the computer itself. routers are pretty bulletproof when it comes to any bugs, so it is usually the client device to blame for software issue.

one thing that may help is to simply unplug the router, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in if all else fails. this will cause the router to reboot, and can sometimes iron out small bugs.

hope that helps :)

My router is 2 years old and yesterday, i started to get the message saying i am not connected to the network. Does that mean the router is no longer working ?

What is giving you thisw message? If it is on a laptop, accessing router wirelessly, then (on the laptop) go into Network Settings and verify that your computer is set up to use a Private network, as Public networks may not let you see other computers on the network. If it is set to Private, then your router may have stopped working. Try resetting the router by sticking a paper clip into the Reset hole, which resets the router to Factory Settings. Go ahead and connect to the router with a CAT-5 cable and use IE to go go to http://192.168.1.1 and complete setting (simplified) as follows:
In Wireless Section, Choose your SSID (Network Name), set security in the section below that by choosing security method and passcode. This passcode MUST be used by all users to access thev wireless signal. Let me know ( jaye.ellen@gmail.com ) if this does not help.

Passcode forgotten

the passcode it's asking is the wireless security that was setup on your router. it could be a wep or wpa.
in order to get it, you need to access the setup page of your router. for most routers, all you need to is open a web browser and enter the router's ip address.
i can't provide the exact steps since i don't know the exact model of your router.
you can try to ask the person who manages your router for the wireless key.

hope this'll help you but if not, provide me the exact brand and model of your router

ciao!

2wire 2700hg-b modem

if you have posted the correct model, you cannot connect a modem to this router as it has it's own built in modem, so in effect the routers modem will not configure properly, remove your modem and try again as there is no reason why the key code numbers should not work, unless you have caps lock on when you should'nt or visa versa
