OXYGEN SENSOR
When the "service engine soon" light comes on, it's throwing a code. There are numerous codes to features and devices that could be the problem. You will need to get the specific code by having the system read with a diagnostic code reader in order to find the specific problem area.

Hello,
The 'Check Engine' light comes on when there is an emmission problem..It could be as simple as a loose gas cap.,. Or it could be it needs
oxygen sensors, catalyic converter, etc. If it went out, don't worry
about it, unless it comes back on. If you want to know why it came on,
get a "Peake" tester for about $100 - the fault is stored in the computer
flash and you can find out. Plus the Peake will reset all computer
functions, like service lights, etc...
Thank you!!!...
IT could possibly be a P0440 (Evaporative Emission System) small leak/no flow condition..Which can be rectified by hooking up a ODB..Take the car to a service and ask him to Hook up ODB..that should solve your problem..
Yeah fine may be you can take the car to the same mechanic and ask him to rectify it but he might charge you for sure!...Dont worry but your car will surely be back on Track and fine!!.. :)

This simply means that your service date is near.. This involves
1.) replacing the engine timing belt
2.) changing oil in engine and transmission,
3.) changing filters
4.) serviceing the fuel injection system,,
Basically a tuneup.
After its done, the mechanic will use a autodiagnostic tool to check for any error codes from sensors, investigate and correct the problems if any and then clear all error codes and reset the service counter. This is a saftey feature now standered in most cars to prevent damages to the vehicle and to insure its running propperly all the time. Noting to worry about unless you wait too long. If you do then
The cars computer will shut down the vehicle where it will become imnobile and noting can start it. There will be 2 ways to get it to move,
1. Call a wrecker
2.) get a mechaninc to clear the counter and fool the system into thinking it was surviced.
BTW AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED AND THE CODES CLEARED AND RESET, THE MECHANINC WILL NEED TO RETIME THE THROTTLE BODY, this is done by
1.) opening the driver door,
2.) disconnecting the negative battery pole
3.) pushing the axcellerator right down to the floor and holding it there while someone reconnects the battery pole
4.) starting the vechicle with the peddle right down and then slowel releasing ..
Thats about it.. No need to worry, just get the vehicle surviced.
BTW failure to service may result in damages to the engine and transmission, if you need more details on this you may contact our dealer, normally its done with the car has a certin amount of milage to it.
Then the codes and counters were not reset, You will need to take it back and have them reset it. As this was part of the service package they will have to do it for free.,, Once the vehicle is functional without any seeming problems and this light it on, it mean you need to service the vehicle, especially the timing belt.
if it was a sensor ,,the bmw feature shyts the vehicle down. it isnt a code it just needs clearing and resetting.

Grounded electrical wiring ,due to worn out insulation, try to check this out..
Hope this may help;

Check pin 5 for ground and 16 for battery voltage. Seehttp://www.auterraweb.com/obdiipinout.ht...
Pin 5 was grounded, pin 16, however had no voltage. I took a closer
look at some of the fuses test light and found that the fuse labeled
"CIGAR" was blown in such a way that it was hard to see. I replaced it
and was able to read the codes. Now I have to figure out what those
mean:
CODE #1: P1518 - PCM to TAC Module Serial Data Circut
CODE #2: P0440 Evaporative Emission System
CODE #3: P0440 (Pending) Evaporative Emission System
FREEZE FRAME DATA FOR P1518:
Fuel Sys 1 OL
Fuel Sys 2 OL
Calc Load (%) 0
ETC (°F) 190
STFT B1 (%) 0
LTFT B1 (%) 0
STFT B2 (%) 0
LTFT B2 (%) 0
MAP (in HG) 25.1
Eng RPM 0
Veh Speed 0
MAF (lb/min) 0
TPS (%) 15.2
And yes, I have checked my gas cap! I'll be extra sure to make sure its
on as tight as I can get it just to be sure. I have cleared the codes
and will watch for the light again.

The service light means something is wrong with the car and it needs attention now. Get the codes checked and that will tell you what is wrong with it.

have it scanned then decide depending on the code
