The AC adapter has a small wire in the center of the connector to the system. This sensing wire, if bent or broken will cause the error you mention.
If it's still under warranty contact Dell Support. If not, you'd better buy one replacement.

How do I get my computer to recognized my new ac power adapter?

The computer doesn't need any drivers to recognize an AC Adapter. If you have purchased the correct AC Adapter for your laptop then it should just work when you plug it in. If it does not then my guess is either you have received a faulty AC Adapter or the DC Jack which you plug into in the back of the laptop is bad.
I am assuming your battery is dead and when you plug it in and turn it on nothing happens?
You can also try taking the battery out and try to power it on with the AC Adapter plugged in.

The Dell Latitude D610 takes a PA-10 or PA12 AC Adapter. It's 65W or 90W

For 90 watt Adapter the output voltage on your AC Adapter label should read 19.5V and 4.62A
At least that's what the Dell brand reads so it should be close to that.

Will Not charge with brand new a/ power cord it will at times power on if moved the right way but quickly powers off if moved the port inside looks to be fine But I hear there is a pin type thing inside...

The problem is with the AC adapter itself and is a very common problem with Dell AC adapters. My suggestion would be to get an aftermarket AC adapter that can be purchased on eBay as the Dell adapter is around 100.00. You can pick up an aftermarket one on eBay for around 20.00. The problem is a resistor inside the AC adapter that senses when a Dell branded adapter is inserted. What happens is that the resistor will get damaged and since it doesn't recognize the charger as a Dell branded one anymore it won't charge. However it will still run the laptop as long as it's connected. A lot of aftermarket AC adapters bypass this function and work perfectly fine.

Ac adapter not recognized appears on the screen...how do i fix this?

Sounds like you may need a replacement for the adapter.

Can you borrow one for the identical model?

Check and ensure that the power requirements for the laptop are matched by the output voltages on the ac adapter.

Good luck

Latitude d530 has 1 gb memory. I added another Gb. How do I modify setup so that the system recognizes the upgrade?

It should automatically utilize the expanded memory. After installed, upon startup, you should get a notice saying that the memory was recognized.

Charger isnt recognized

Dell portables use a sensing wire in the barrel of the adapter plug to determine the wattage of the ac adapter. If that fine wire in the center of the plug is bent or broken, the system cannot ID the adapter and the battery charger is disabled.
SO, first try a known good AC adapter for a D-Series Dell (You might be able to check with Geek Squad at a local Best Buy if you don'e have access to another ac adapter) If a known good ac adapter works, then replace the ac adapter.
If a known good AC adapter does the same thing then the fault is in the charging circuit of the motherboard and the motherboard will need to be replaced.

Latitude d520 will not recognize power adapter

I have heard about this problem with a number of Dell laptops, including the Inspiron models. The problem is that the connector for the power port may have been loosened after many years of use. This may require service from Dell on the motherboard.
