Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Dsc h5 horizontal (underexposed) lines

Hi,

A few years ago(!) you placed an aswer here:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t121097-horizontal_lines_still_pics

What's the relation between the horizontal lines (in poor light condition) and the overexposed outdoor pictures?

You can see on the page above I dropped my camera (a stupid history) and I get the same horizontal lines since then. Now that I saw your question, I recall I got over exposed pictures for a short period of time during previous week-end. I used -1.7EV to correct the situation, and after a few shots all came back to normal...

We were hiking on the mountins and my girlfriend also used the camera. She switched to "Auto" mode to alternatively take shots with "Auto" and (corrected) "P" modes... I was busy with the baby carrier, so I didn't pay much attention to the camera...

Clearly something is broken, but what?

I've got my screwdriver and I'm already looking to a dsc-h50 (although it has proprietary batttery and cables and (I read somewhere) it also has a 10 minutes movie limitation...)

So, let the games begin. What screws to unscrew, what pieces to extract? :)

Thank you,
Mircea.

OK, I agree with you, overexposure it's an aperture problem. But what about the horizontal lines?

Hmmm after resampling, the bands are not that visible...

    OK, thank you.

The aperture and lens mechanism is too fine for me to go in there... I don't have the necessary tools, and I don't think I can do any good by opening it. (Like I would know how...)

Blowing some air inside to "remove" any dust particles will also be disastrous. So, I will try the other way arround. I'll kick the camera until I'll get the desired results. Maybe the things will get back in place. :P

We'll see after this week-end if this "brute force method" will pay any results. In the Programming field, it does. Sometimes... :))

The apparture system of the camera stucks to fully open, due to the impact if you happen to drop the camera. if you open the shutter and the diaphram assembly, and try to move the apparture blade manualy. it should move swiftly from one end to other with a ****. 1) sometime the motor moving this blade gets disallign or some fine sand or dust or sometimes even one finds something liquid sticking the movement of the blade. just opening and cleaning the mechanism solves the problem. 2) in some cases the flexible ribbon cable carrying signal to the assembly gets broken. replacement of the same solves the problem.

I hope you fix your camera successfully.

Sony DSC H5 runs down batteries very rapidly. Much faster than when the camera was originally purchased. A pair of new AA batteries only lasts for 12 - 24 photos. Brand new rechargeables fully charged are...

Hi there please reset the camera 1st . THen pair your battery with your camera. Go in menu then battery type option. Select the type of a battery. After that save the setting. Now try . If you face the same problem then the camera internal power transformer are damaged or week. So you need to replace that transformer after that it will start work properly. You use that camera so long, that's why there is a chance of that damaged. Thanks if its helpful then rating me.
