Question about Onkyo TX-SR803 Receiver

Cannot hear DVD through the DVD receiver port

I can hear audio CDs when played on my Sony DVD/CD player, which is connected to my Onkyo receiver via an HDMI connection. I played a DVD the other day and it worked. However, yesterday when I tried to watch the DVD again, the DVD port on the receiver indicated the No Signal message. After experimenting a bit, I discovered the following:

  1. turn on receiver and select DVD
  2. turn on CD/DVD player
  3. insert DVD in CD/DVD player and hit play
  4. receiver indicates DVD - All Channels message and I can hear the audio of the DVD
  5. turn on TV
  6. receiver indicates the DVD - No Signal message
So the problem occurs as soon as I turn on the TV. As I said, this was not happening before yesterday. I could both listen and watch DVDs. I have a Sony TV with 2 HDMI connections in the back. The DVD player is attached to the receiver on HDMI port 1 of the receiver and the receiver is attached to the TV on HDMI port 1 of the TV. Do you need any further information? Thanks.

My Onkyo TX-SR506 plays cable and CD inputs to zone 2, but DVD won't play. Everything is connected according to the manual and I assigned zone 2 output correctly. What gives?

How are your cable and cd inputs hooked up? Analog connections? Alot of receivers cannot send an audio signal from hdmi inputs to zone 2.

Cant get tv audio through receiver directly (without satallite, Game, DVD connection)

If your TV doesn't support audio return channel (ARC, which is your TV audio routed back to the receiver through the same HDMI cable), you then need to connect your television audio-out to your Onkyo TV audio input, using a digital cable or an analog one according to the connections on the back of your TV. If you use a digital connection (optical or coaxial), make sure you have the proper digital port assigned to TV on the onkyo I/O assign menu/digital inputs.
In case your TV does support ARC, you need to activate it in the Onkyo's hardware/HDMI setup menu, either by turning on HDMI control (tv or receiver control each other via cable), or by turning ARC on (you'd probably need to activate ARC on your TV as well).
Hope this help,

Unable to connect a blu ray dvd player to onkyo tx-sr605 via hdmi

Not sure what unable to connect means..but I will assume you have the correct cable.

First make sure you have plugged the from the HDMI cable from the DVD play into the IN 1 HDMI port on the back of your Onkyo

On the Receiver
Enter the Setup mode
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
Next make sure the HDMI monitor out is set to YES on the Receiver
Monitor out
HDMI Monitor - YES

Next you need to assign the HDMI INPUT to DVD
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
HDMI INPUT
DVD - IN1
CBL/SAT - IN2

This may be your issue.

Next step would be to verify your television input settings.

Nice receiver!

Best of luck!

Audio won't play on DVD - but it will play for CDs

Hello, you can verify that your receiver is working or not. When you are playing a dvd unplug the audio RCA plugs (red and white) from the back of the Sony dvd player. Touch the tips of each of the RCA plugs with your fingertip. You will hear a buzz sound coming from the speaker associated with the plug if the receiver is working\ i.e. touch the red RCA plug tip and the right speaker will hum...touch the white tip and the left speaker will hum or buzz. This will not hurt your system or speaker. If you do not hear the hum turn the volume to 3 or so and wet your fingertip and tap the tip of the RCA connectors. You will hear "pops" coming from the respected channel. I believe your cd\dvd is at fault. Good Luck!

Receiver won't put out sound to LCD Sharp aquos

I have the same problem with my Sharp Lcd and Onkyo 804. I believe one problem is that the TV can not accept dolby digital or dts digital audio signals through HDMI. It will play sound if it receives a PCM signal through HDMI. You can try switching the type of signal on the cable box settings and on the dvd player. I switched to PCM and got sound through the TV and the receiver. The problem is that PCM is usually only a 2 channel signal and Dolby 5.1 will sound better through the surround sound theater system. I have not found an absolute solution to this yet, but I am willing to not get sound through the lousy TV speakers in order to get top notch sound through the Onkyo.

Replacement for Onkyo DVD Player

You do not worry about the DVD player, any brand of DVD Player has compatible for that system because the output of all DVD player has already synchronizing the output impedance of the DVD to the input of your system. And you are looking for the best resolution of DVD player so you can try either sony, jvc, pioneer.and many more, but the best thing you can do is to bring the sample CD that you already know the picture and then you can try to play into the DVD that what you have selected.
