My compaq laptop sound has working fine till yesterday...suddenly it stopped working...what might be the problem?

First the obvious.

Check and make sure the volume is not on mute and it is turned all the way up. Also check the sound properties through the Control Panel and make sure all the volume knobs are turned up.

The not-so-obvious

Check the device manager to see if there are any warnings in the section called 'Sound, video, and game controllers'. The best way to access the Device Manager is to click Start, right-click Computer(Windows 7) or My Computer(Windows XP) and click Manage. The computer management screen will come up and you'll click on Device Manager. If there is a red X or a yellow ! then run windows updates and see if there are any hardware drivers needing downloaded.

ok two places to check

on bottom right of screen(desktop) there should be a speaker icon click on that to ensure it is not muted

2. start button control panel sound icon

click and check to see if settings are ok

do those first and let me know results.

Wireless Router suddenly stopped working.
Try resetting the Linksys back to the factory defaults and configure it again.
Power up the router and press the pinhole RESET button on the back of the router for 30 sec
Connect a LAN cable to the wireless router and open a browser and enter to router's configuration IP address and configure the wireless settings, remove the LAN cable when configuration is completed.
You need to configure then wireless card in the computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings.

Sounds like a virus. Go into safe mode with networking and install
Malwarebytes and Superantispyware, try running them from safe mode.
