I have sucessfully unlocked Nuvi 350's -- but only for owners who can prove they purchased it by showing a receipt and proof of registration/ownership through Garmin.

Yeah you are screwed.
You don't know the owner? You don't know the code? And, you don't know the location? What!! Is it stolen?
You are correct that the unit will automatically unlock IF you get to within 150 feet of where the code was keyed in, because it uses those co-ordinates as security. Once within that location you can go in and change the code.
Failing the above, Now your only choice is to take to an authorized dealer. Good luck

Garmin gps doesn't work when charging with cigarette charger. Instead of the GPS to Navigate it rather shows like there's a data transfer.

Hello,

The proper vehicle power cables for the Garmin nuvi 260 are part numbers 010-10723-06 or 010-11478-03.
The use of improper cables will cause the nuvi to go into mass storage.

My Garmin Nuvi 260 is not on the recall list but will not charge or stay on - it does start up but after allegedly loading the maps, it turns off

The recall is for an overheating battery issue which can potentially cause a fire. Your problem is totally unrelated and is most likely simply due to the rechargeable battery being exhausted.

Replacing the battery is supposed to be a Garmin service centre job, but they charge silly money for it. Do it yourself instead, click here for a free instructional video.

Good luck, please take a moment to rate my reply.

Can my garmin 260 be used for hiking?

No your unit would need to be compatible with the MapSource Topo maps which your unit is not.

I have a Garmin nuvi 260 and I bought it in U.S. I am going to the Netherlands and when I type in Netherlands it tells me it cannot find it. How do I use this in Europe?

You'll need to buy and install European mapping, such as Garmin's City Navigator® Europe NT, or the slightly cheaper but more restricted City Navigator® Europe NT – Benelux/France.

Nuvi 260 won't turn on at all.

Had the same problem with my Garmin Nuvi 260w. It just needed to be reset. Lift up the sticker strip on the bottom of the unit and press the reset tab. Worked like a charm for me. HTH!

Nuvi 260 question

Yes it does.
You would have to pay for the Map
Yes, it can give directions in Spanish
You'll have to download that language (free) from Garmin.
But before you do anything you must download the free Garmin UPDATER
Do that here:
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} To download the latest unit software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater
After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.
