SOURCE: Where is the lamp housing unit & how do I remove it?

The lamp is in the front of the TV. Pop off the gray cover, about the width of the screen, located just left of the power button. You will then see a bunch of warning labels on the left. Unscrew the one screw that is there and take that piece off. There's your lamp. Unscrew the screw on the right of the lamp and the lamp will slide out.

SOURCE: installing a lamp in the Hitachi 50V710 projection TV

The lamp is on the bottom left side. Remove the plastic piece that goes across the TV below the screen. It will snap off. No screws. Remove 2 screws to access the lamp carriage.
Make sure you DO NOT touch the new lamp with your bare hands.

Red lamp light on at all times ,stays on , no picture

Sounds like you need to replace your lamp. You can get them at ebay. Just type in your model number there. There is a door on one of the sides, or in the back where the lamp is located in the tv.

When I turn the TV on, the Lamp and Temp lights blink red. Then the TV shuts down after a minute. Do you know what the cause is?

How long has it been since the lamp has been change? If the lamp went out, this would cause this problem.

I have the lamp, the tv is still not coming on. Is there something that has to be reset?

Yes. You will have to reset the lamp hours. It should be in your owners manual.
Copy and paste this link in your address bar if you don't have the manual:

I have heard that this may work on your tv

1. Switch power ON, and press the TIMER button on the remote control transmitter, or the RESET button on the control panel, for approximately three seconds. The 'LAMP xxxx hr' message will appear on the lamp timer on the bottom of the screen.
2. Press the MENU button on the remote control transmitter, or the RESET button on the control panel, while the lamp timer is displayed. The 'LAMP xxxx [] -> 0 [|] CANCEL' message will then appear.
3. Press the [<|] and select 0, and wait until the timer display is cleared.
