Update;what is duration between charging

Most batteries, apart from the older nickel-cadmium type, give a better life when charging is short and creates as little heat as possible.
This means charging should be a frequent top-up charge rather than leaving it until the battery is well discharged and then recharging over a longer period.

If the unit is used in a vehicle and operated from the power plug it should not need additional charging.

If the unit is stored for any length of time it should be charged before it is stored and have a top-up charge every couple of months or as required. Experience with your unit will eventually guide you more accurately than I can. Beware of leaving the battery discharged for more than a few days. Discharged batteries are soon permanently damaged and die early.

Brand new unit. worked great for 2 days. now unit

  • Try to charge the unit for 8 hrs using the wall adapter and then try to power on the unit, if its still the same and it will not power on try to call for the tech support so that they can replace the unit if they can't fix it and don't forget to have the receipt number for reference.

My gamin won't charge

FIRST, make sure you have the charger recommended by Garmin. I made the mistake buying a cheap brand and it didn't work. That was a waste!

  1. Use the provided vehicle power cable that came with your GPS unit. The unit will charge while powered on and using the device as well as when the GPS unit is powered off and plugged into a running vehicle. About 3 hrs for a full charge. If the unit will not charge in the vehicle, check the fuse in the power cable for the unit and the power outlet in the vehicle.
  2. Use an AC power adaptor. Some units come with this power cable to plug the GPS unit into a wall outlet allowing the GPS unit to take a charge. For units that do not come with this cable, one can be purchased from Garmin's online store.
  3. For most units, the final way of charging the battery is to plug the GPS into a powered on computer with a USB cable2. This method of charging will be a trickle charge and it may take longer (like a full day) than the other two options, however it will still charge the battery. A USB cable is provided with a few GPS models. For those that don't come with this cable, one can either be ordered from the online store or you can use a standard USB to mini-USB cable that fits the unit and plugs into your computer.

Yes i just bought a tomtom navigation system someone at the store said it has to be charged 24 hours I have the cigarette lighter charger in it will this charge it up?

Yes, It will charge the unit but I would leave it plugged in for about 2 days if you are going to use it when it powers up. I plugged mine in immediately after purchase and used it about 20 min later. the battery should read full charge after a day or two with continued use. Enjoy it!!
