You cannot change the code on the keypad without first entering the garage. Sounds to me like the receiver has quit working. It is a part of the logic board. If the large door is the only entrance to the garage you will have to call a door company. They can get you in by drilling a hole in the door and using a special tool to pull the manual release.

We just moved in our house in January and our keypad on our 1/2HP Liftmaster stopped working. I have changed the battery and when I try the code the backlight blinks several times but the door never opens....

Try programming the keypad by doing this:

Press and immediately release the smart/learn button and then walk over to your keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter. If this doesn't work you keypad has quit.

Forgotten password

You don't need the old password to change to a new one. Locate the smart/learn button on the back of your motor unit. Press and immediately release this and then walk over and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.

Garage door keypad & remote

You need to sync both. I have a LiftMaster. If you want to change the code on your keypad you need to open up the garage door motor compartment where the light is (mine is in the back). Press the learn button, within 30 seconds enter the new code on your keypad and hold down the enter button for several seconds until the light on the opener blinks to tell you it has learned the code. Test the new code to see if it works. If the new keypad code works, then try the remote. My remote will not work after I reprogram the keypad. If the remote does not work (check battery) then climb back up the ladder and press the learn button on the garage door motor again, press the remote button and hold down until the light blinks again and the opener has learned the new code. This process works when I need to sync my remote and keypad. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Craftsman garage door keypad

The blinking on your keypad simply means that a code of some sort was sent. Whether it be the right on or not. Lets try to reprogram the unit. Press the colored learn button on the motor head and then within 30 seconds enter in the 4 digit code followed by the up/down action button. The light bulb should flash to let you know it has been accepted. Wait 5 minutes and try. If it does not work replace the keypad.
