Search in the area for a shop that recones speakers, you should be able to get the surround (rubber part) replaced.

Where are you located? Perhaps I can direct you to such a place.

How do i remove the Sony MHC-EC98PI speaker grills?

Insert some sort of scrapper at bottom of speaker box where front grille and box joins and hit scrapper blade with rubber hammer to bring out grille because it is fixed very tightly with box.
Following images are scrapper and exploded view of speaker box that will help you.
Thanks.

Hey , with the Onkyo TX-NR1000 can I get started plugging two speaker while I gather enough money to buy the surround sound speakers. Also your opinion on speaker choices is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sure you can only connect 2 speakers. As for brand recommendation Polk audio makes some fine sounding speakers also Klipsch, Boston acoustics, too many to suggest. If you have a Best Buy near you they usually have a speaker room with many different brands that you can listen to. Though that doesn't mean you have to buy them their. I'm partial to Polk audio though. Polk has excellent customer service. That's going to be a tough decision you should really do some research on the internet for cost to quality references. Good luck. I hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.

I purchased onkyo 606 receiver and Polk RM85 speakers and Polk PSW110 subwoofer. When I turned the volume on my receiver to max, the system shutdown. When I turned it back on, the sound is very low from...

Sounds like you popped the voice coils in the speakers when you overloaded the old receiver. The system shut down to protect the speakers, but it didn't shut down in time.

Time for new speakers or to have the old ones re-coned.

Good luck

Mt polk audio satelitte speakers are blown, what do i need to do to fix them myself?

depending on what you mean by 'blown' .
a kit is available to replace the surrounds that anyone with a mild sense of mechanical abilities can do.

If the cone is frozen , you may need to buy a new set of speakers.

I have a set of RM300 Polk sub-sattelite speakers. Have had them for some time and still love em but.... The foam surrrounds on the bigger sattelites have disintegrated. Polk says too old cant fix. ...

Yes they can be re-surrounded. It is not that hard, it just taes some practice. How big are the speakers? Look for a local speaker repair shop. They are few, but still exist. The hardest part is finding the correct surround. As long as the remainder of the speaker is in good shape, you will find these to be good as new once done. FIrgure about 2-3 days to complete the job properly.

Overload Problem

If your rec'vr worked with the original front and rear speakers, the new speakers are either defective or ar the wrong impedance.
Also, I find this confusing: "I connected the wiring for 1 of the front speakers to the connection on the rear of the receiver". This may indicate wrong wiring connection. Make sure you have connected the speakers properly
