Canon MP210 - printhead overheating

Hi, i have recently purchased the above printer and i'm having overheating issues with the head. I've hardly used it, but when i do it prints badly and says that the 'printhead is overheating'. it's not as if i'm printing hundreds of documents - this is happening after just three pages of text printing.

In regards to the heat, try and spray WD-40 on the gear assembly and see if you can lower the resistance. Also look for paper obstructing the head or heavy dust.

If it is actually an issue with the print head itself somehow failing to regulate its own temperature, you may have to replace the print head.

If you can take out the printhead it might power up, sometimes that is caused by a bad printhead. If not that light indicates a bad main logic board and it's cheaper to buy a new printer.

The printer is tell me to ionstall the pint head

Assuming that you have actually read or looked at the installation instructions and been using this printer this error usually means that there's a problem with the printer being able to "sense" or connect to the printhead.

Best way to resolve this is to check the following:

  1. Remove all the cartridges and remove the printhead from the printer

  2. Check the printhead copper contacts (found at the back of the printhead) and remove any ink smears, hair or other foreign material that may be causing connectivity issues

  3. Check that the printhead carriage (the bit that the printhead normally sits in) has no damaged or broken contact pins.. These can be damaged when a printhead is forced into the carriage.
If you've checked and resolved or found none of these to be a visible issue, try turning off the printer, turning it back on and then installing the printhead (without cartridges!) and see if the printer is recognising it..

Then try installing the cartridges carefully and see if that solves the problem.

If not, it's probably either a blown printhead in which case a new printhead can be purchased from Canon or a service center.. or you have damage to the printer that you cannot see and perhaps it's time to replace the printer or take it to a service center.

Hope that helps.

Hp officejet pro k5400 will not print the mc light is blinking. I just put in new print heads this morning.

1. Printheads have an expiry date so I'd recommend checking that the printhead has not past its expiry or something similar. It's a shot in the dark but may be relevant.

2. It's also possible that the connecting strip at the back of the printheads slot is soiled with ink or condensation... Try using a cotton bud to gently clean this strip of any moisture, wipe the contact on the printhead too (NOT the printhead nozzles!) and then reinsert the printhead.

As Rowdytown points out though, pulling the power on this printer and then reinserting after a couple of minutes usually resolves any internal issues as well by hard resetting the printers state.

CANON MP830 all in one is sayin" the type of printhead is incorrectn Install the correct Printhead."

Hi follow the instructions as above...
ie Remove inks and print head...

But instead...
Whilst Canon print head is out...

Use cotton wool and alcohol and clean electrical contacts on back of print head and where they make contact inside printer.

Then install print head and inks and test.

If it does not work you may need to replace print head.

Canon Mp390 print problem

Hi James,

If you have replaced the printhead and cartridges and the problem still occurs then it may be the printhead contacts that are dirty. Get a cotton bud and pure alochol and lightly rub the contacts. But I would expect some sort of print out albeit not a decent one. If the above solution does not work then you may have to speak to canon as it may be a serious problem.
