Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lens error restart camera

My lense will not go back inside my camera and I have tried all of Canon's troubleshooting techniques without success:
-while in recording mode...remove battery and wait 5mins then re-insert
-gently tap USB cover on desk
-gently rotate large and small lense ring while camera is on

Any advice?

With thanks, Ted

I am experiencing the same problem.

kreutch5@yahoo.com, has also experienced the same problem. I have had very limited use of my camera over the past 2 years. It has never been dropped, left out in the heat or cold, and while transporting, etc, it is in a soft carrying case.

Hi

A couple solutions would be to either buy a defective camera online and make one good camera from the two if you can do that sort of thing yourself, or secondly have it repaired by somebody.

Don't bother trying to send the camera to Canon if it is out or warranty (though you can call them and verify what I'm about to say) because they will want $150+ to do the repair for you. Parts are not cheap to buy from them.

I know of one very affordable digital camera repair business... because I own it. The name is Darntoothysam, feel free to check us out, we are on that big auction website also (I don't plug their name for free), our seller ID is 'darntoothysam'. If you Google "darntoothysam" you will find us.

We have your repair listed as a package in our store for about $70. This covers a new lens, and return shipping of your camera! We even give a 45 day warranty on parts and labor. If you think you can use us then please check us out, even if you need to ask more questions then please feel free to contact me.

Hope this helps,

Thomas

SHOWS LENSE ERROR, RESTART THE CAMERA, AND SHUTDOWN AUTOMATICALLY CANON A 1000 IS POWERSHOT MODEL

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

I have a canon camera IXUS 105 and the lense is stuck out and when i turn the camera on it says 'lens error, will shut down automaticly, restart camera' i have restarted it many times but the lenses wont...

A lens error can be caused by physical damage to the mechanism that controls the lens, or debris that is interfering with the operation of the lens.

This article may be able to help you with a "do it yourself" solution.
http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

In the event that your problem is due to physical damage and not just dirt or debris, you will need to take it to a local camera repair shop for troubleshooting-- though with most consumer digital cameras, labor and parts cost of a repair can easily exceed the value of the camera.

Hi there I have recntly purchased a Canon 15m EF fish eye lense which I have used on a Canon 450d + 350d body. On the 350d I get an error 99 code and on the 450d get a 01 error code. This leads me...

Rob, Error 99 is Canon's catch all error code, yes my first impression would also have been to clean the contacts but something else that is happening is the camera firmware may need to be updated to handle that particular lens. Camera updates are free on the Canon site and actually can solve a lot of hidden processing problems.

That lens isn't really suitable for your 450d as it's an APS-C sensor size with a 1.6 crop focal factor which will give you more like a 24mm focal length.

You may also want to format the memory card and clean your battery terminals both the battery and the contacts in the battery compartment.

Best little cleaning item for cleaning contacts is a pencil eraser (new) lens contacts or battery something about the soft rubber cleaning off the most suborn dirt and electrolysis.

Don't use a "used" eraser obviously it will transfer the dirt to the contacts over removing what you want.

Hope these techniques work they have for me

Lens error,restart camera

Hi,

This error occured when lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting.when pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera.
Avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:
  • Do not touch Lens while shooting.
  • Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case.
If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera off and then on again then your device need to be repaired.

Rating the solution is highly appriciated...Good Luck.

How to fix digital camera canon ixus 70 'lens error restart camera'?

Would not recommend opening the camera as the chances are much greater for you causing greater damage. BUT would instead recommend that you try the seven sequential repair step outlined for a lens error in the below listed Related Link "Fixing a Lens Error on a Digital Camera". None of the steps outlined in this link involve opening the camera. and reportedly you should have close to a 50% chance of success with these techniques.

If you cannot repair the lens yourself with the first related link, then consider trying the two 'Digital camera repair" links below for two online digital camera repair businesses.

Lens error, restart camera. How can I restart the camera IXUS 60?

Hi,

Since the camera is locked after lens error, you will restart camera removing batteries.

If this does not help, then you are in one of the following conditions:

Lens error and lens does not retract.
Try helping lens gently back in while you turn off the camera holding the button at same time.

Lens error and lens do not extend.
Restart the camera , and try gently tapping the camera back with the palm of your hand whilst restarting camera at same time.

If that does not help, then one part on the camera lens assembly is broken or out of place, or dirt inside lens mechanism caused the fault.

The lens must be disassembled by a technician to fix the problem.

If the problem is not fixed swapping batteries and resetting, then the camera must be taken apart and tested by a technician.

Lense won't retract on Canon Powershot SD630

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try. You're also more likely to be successful trying these than going inside the camera:

Finally, if you absolutely must open the camera, here's a couple guides to replacing the camera's LCD that may help:

Your Camera is full of sand and you can try blowing it out and banging it out. But I'd say it's time for a new camera. Regards Thestreeker
