Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

1 Answer

Explorer.exe won't come up after downloading and installing new software

After downloading and installing (or at least attempting to) new anti-virus software (not-free ware but something I bought) and restarting - I am not able to get Windows to come up.

The windows splash screen comes up the background is displayed but the task bar and none of the icons are displayed. I am able to open task manager and I see that explorer.exe is not running. If I attempt to start it (start new task) - it states that no problem is associated with it.

If I reboot in safe mode with command prompt (because all other safe mode and last good configuration act just like booting normally) - nothing happens when I run explorer.exe If I try to run System Restore from there (c:/windows/System32/restore) - I get a blank dialog. If I attempt to run msconfig.exe - the dialog comes up but nothing happens with I select Launch System Restore.

I have tried to boot from CD - it ignore it and just launches window's normally. I have tried to boot from usb flash drive - get non boot partition and have to cycle the system to get out of it. I don't have a floppy drive.

I tried reinstalling the OS (I have the CD that came with it) I can get the menu to come up - but when I attempt the install nothing happens.

Reinstalling would be my last chance.

Is there anything you can suggest I do?

In my openion, Virus doesn't want to be killed by anti-virus :D You need to download DM2000 (disk manager 2000 of SeaGate) and run it in DOS mode to format Hard-Disk.

Pls advise if the following processes running in my Task Manager are viruses or genuine system processes - ccSvcHst.exe; lsass.exe; explorer.exe, winlogon.exe; svchost.exe; wuauclt.exe; jqs.exe;...

ccSvcHst.exe - works to display the GUI (Graphical User Interface) of Norton products, which usually include the Norton Security Suites.
lsass.exe - Disable and remove lsass.exe Immediately. This process is most likely a virus or trojan.

Other processes are required for essential applications to work properly.

You can visit this liutilities.com and search for the process your not familiar with.

Please rate this if you find this helpful.

Thanks,

I HAVE THIS VIRUS CALLED PYAGCORE.SEARCH AND THIS WON,T LET ME USE MESSANGER HOW CAN I REMOVE THIS VIRUS

Open up Task Manager. Look for a process called kiwee.exe. If it exists, highlight it and click on End Process. Open up Windows Explorer and browse to C:\Program Files\Kiwee Toolbar. Right-click on the Kiwee Toolbar folder and select Delete. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

You should also install some kind of anti-virus software on your system. AVG is a decent free option as are Avast and Avira. If you don't want to manually remove this virus, you can download and install AVG 8.5 free edition and have it run a full scan once you have it installed and it will be able to remove this virus (and any others that happen to be lurking on your system).

Explorer.exe uses all available CPU

Norton anti-virus is a resource HOG. Disable it from running at start-up. It may be trying to download updates as the pc is booting. Use AVG anti virus, it is free and works very well.
