Hi Harry, Try re-installing the printer again.Disconnect the printer completely from your PC.Uninstall the printers software from your PC and then reboot it. Insert the installation disk and run setup to install a fresh the printers driver. If you don't have the installing discs, download the drivers from this canon support site.Select the driver that corresponds with your Operating System[Windows XP,Vista etc].
What OS are you using? Do you have the full software installed, the Canon driver or the OS generic driver? If you plugged in the USB cable before installing the Canon software, you probably got the generic driver which doesn't run with the scanner. Uninstall the driver and unplug the data cable; then download the software from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx310#DriversAndSoftware (select your OS) and install it. Try a new data cable and different port. (Scanning requires bi-directional communication and can fail when the printer works.)
Paint (in XP through Win7) should work if the computer recognizes that the device has a scanner. File > Import from Camera or Scanner. Check your hardware listing. (For Win7 Start > Devices and Printers; older OS versions may have the list under the Control Panel.) The printer might show up twice if installed correctly.
Then download driver for your operating system like xp or vista. Then connect usb cable of printer to usb ports on computer. Then install driver from download . Then it works fine. Let me know if you need more assistance. Thanks.
Try to check your cable connection maybe its properly inserted in your port. If it continues to appear try reinstalling your printer. When installing follow the steps in the installation. Disconnect the usb cable to the PC prior to installation. You will be ask to attached it to the PC during installation before completing the installation. Check also your network settings maybe some plug ins are disconnected. After installation it needs also to restart the pc so that new changes of the settings will be detected. Please rate this solution so that I will have more bases to suggest if you will elaborate on the result.
i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different
workstations with the following steps.
1. install printer locally via usb and test. 2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it. 3.
once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the
port to something local - anything will do to free up the port. 4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server. 5. test print. should work fine.
