Question about Kirby G5 Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Kirby G5 intermittent power

The vacuum 'turns off' intermittently unless held nearly parallel to the floor. If not held in this position and moved very slowly, it will shut off, then quickly turn back on, then off again. Sometimes it is hard to get it to turn back on (have to find just the right angle), but I never have to push the power switch. The switch remains on, but the motor itself stops/starts.

Any suggestions? I would like to order the necessary part(s) and fix this before causing further damage to the vacuum.

Thank you.

I would say that it is a short in the power cord.

I was sweeping my floor I turned it off, then when I went to turn it back on it wouldnt turn on? HELP

Check the power button switch, it is often cause vacuum to shut off. Thus cutting current flow into the vacuum circuit. Also check the cord for intermittent connection. The cord is subjected to bent, twist and other abuse action while vacuum is in use.
Good luck.

I hope adjusting position of the position of the "pivot spring assembly" will help. but you may have to disassemble entire slide assembly to clean it up if it still does not work smoothly. See instructions HERE (adjustment is explained in step #6). Try to "play" with screws #4 and if it does not help - clean slid.

Good Luck

Turns out that little light is a BELT indicator. Even though the belt wasn't broken it had stretched and needed to be replaced. So a $2 part and my baby is working as well as ever!!

Kirby G5 Techdrive pedal

Kirby N/D pedal is an assembly that can not just come out. So I would say that it is most likely broken. See THIS ITEM and if the part that was left on the floor is just a part of what you see in the picture then it is broken.
It is possible to assemble it back together but usually it falls apart again fairly quick and it is hard to get the angle at which pedal must be reassembled. We usually do not mess with it.

Good Luck

check the cord. see if there are any frays. or broken spots. usually it is one of 3 things. 1, faulty electric cord. 2. the attachment or floor nozzle not being properly attached( kind of a duh issue LOL)
3. a faulty switch assy. the switch can be kind of a bear to replace. I hope it is the cord. if not i would take it to a kirby repair person, because it is very easy to damage the motor assy when replacing a kirby switch. trust me i have damaged a few learning how to do it
