Question about Canon PIXMA iP3000 InkJet Photo Printer

Still printing blanks

Hi, thank you for your quick reply. The printer is plugged in with a usb cable. I realize the colour ink is dried up, I just thought the fact that it did print in colour might be important. I have only replaced the black ink. The plastic cap is removed, I checked this a few times, ink is coming out, the printer just doesn't seem to be transferring it to paper. Thanks for continuing to help, I really appreciate it.

Hi, my printer is PIXMA ip1000 not ip3000 and the website you pasted directed me to ip3000 and it said it couldn't find ip1000.

  • Oly Onion Aug 02, 2008

I definitely, 100% have an ip1000 not a ip100, it does exist on other websites.

  • chezzamc Aug 14, 2008

I have an iP3000 all was printing fine then the black just stopped printing altogether the cartridge is still half full.

Did a clean, then did 3 deep cleans, a nozzle check and a print head alignment numerous times still no black.

Makes all the noises but does not print a page at all when selecting clean black only.

    Thanks Cheryl

Hi I've been real busy with Uni thanks for your help, yes I bought my printer outside of the USA because I live in New Zealand. I have uninstalled and installed the driver a few times now, I followed the instructions carefully and did everything correctly just like the first time I installed it. There is nothing wrong with the outflow of ink from the cartridge, the black ink is coming out fine. It's like the printer can't pick up the ink and put it on the paper, I'm wondering if it may be a mechanical problem.

Canon is pretty clear on what to do, I've asked you already to check that the orange tape is removed and you just reiterated that the caps are off.

Go to this page to download on the subsequent page you want to scroll down and click on the "I Agree" download button. This will download the full featured installer program from Canon. Its only 3MB. There are also links to the software packages that came with the printer. If yo need those let me know using the comment box below. When you are prompted to Save, Save it to a new folder on your C Drive called c:\software\Canon\installer

Meanwhile, remove your USB cable and only reattach it when you are prompted to connect it or the installer is done. If in the latter case you attach the cable and Windows "Finds New Hardware" hit the escape key repeatedly until you are out of the Windows installer routine, as we've already just installed it. This is a fallacy of Windows.

When you have replaced cartridges, Canon wants you to run a Head Cleaning routine from your printer's property page and also to run this three times.

If you have trouble finding the Printer Property page for your printer let me know. Its normally, in Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, after clicking that you should see your Printer, right click that and choose Properties. You will then see a Maintenance Tab from where you can access to the Head Cleaning, Print Alignment, Print Head Nozzle Check.

Print the nozzle check pattern to determine whether the ink ejects
properly from the Print Head nozzles and to verify Print Head
    alignment.

From the Maintenance Tab in your Printer Properties, Canon states that you should run the Deep Head Cleaner three times.

Then run the Print Head Nozzle Check, then the Print Head alignment routine.

If you get stuck or have more questions use the Comment Box below to ask me, please don't click on the Ask Me button unless you have a New Problem. OK?

    Best regards,
    Worldvet

ps Thanks again for closing those other posts out correctly. Please know you can ask as many questions as you want until this is fully resolved. Just use the Comment Box below in all cases and we won't have to go through the hassle of closing out the older posts.

Ok. If you look above the posts in this thread there is a category you went through to select your printer. That is what I went by.

I'll get the download for the 1000 to you.

There is no IP1000, there is an IP100, is that the one you have? You may want to look on the back of the printer too where there is normally a sticker with all the data on it.

Also, just confirm that you have windows XP and not XP64 or Vista64

    Worldvet

Go to this page to download the Pixma IP100 software. Scroll down and click on the I Agree and Download button. If this is what you have and you are on XP. There is no IP1000.

Remove your software that is installed first and then reboot.

    Then install this download.
Don't forget to remove the USB cable prior to installation. And, then only connect it when prompted or the installation finishes. Then, when Windows states it found new hardware, you can point to the download source files and let it do its thing.

There is something definitely amiss here. I checked all other models at Canon and they do not mix numbers with other printer types so it wouldn't be any other type of printer or one sold in an Arabic country or a Russian country where the alphabet set is different... just as an example.

Can you download and apply the IP100 driver set I posted for you. If it doesn't match the machine type it will give you an error message. It is very probably that you have a typo on your label.

Lastly, do you have access to a digital camera and would you take a photo of the sticker label on your machine. Just size it so its below 150K and you can post it in a reply here by clicking on the tree icon next to the You Tube icon.

Regards, and thanks for indulging me.

Go here to find the download page for your printer.

It would have been helpful if I knew you bought this outside the US.

    Thanks,
    Worldvet

Run the deep head cleaner three times, Canon sometimes states it should be run seven times.

You can also do this trick. Soak a paper towel in rubbing alcohol while over a sink, place the ink cartridge in this wad of wet paper towel and let the alcohol soak into the print head well. Then, while keeping the paper towel around the print head strike the cartridge against the edge of the sink, not the print head surface but bottom of the cartridge. This should knock loose the clogged bubbles. (Thanks to another expert for this last tid-bit)

Re insert the cartridge into the printer when the ink starts flowing freely into the wet paper towel. Run the head cleaner routines, nozzle check and print head alignment.

Sorry, I forgot to embed the link to the printer driver. I wish you had mentioned it to me. If you had and I never got an alert, let me know that too as we've had some trouble with alerts from customer replies.

Here is the link to the page that has the printer driver listed under Downloads. Just click on the driver file that ends in an exe.

Here is the link to the Printer's Manual in PDF format should you need it. Click on the file name under Manual.

Let me know how you're making out.

    Hello,

There is a big time zone difference for us two. I am GMT -7 and am only up right now because of the Olympics.

I had assumed this problem resolved, but I am willing to work with you until this is resolved.

Yes, this could actually be a mechanical problem that only service from Canon can resolve.

Unfortunately, for you, this would require another dialog much like this one for them to be satisfied that factory service is required. So, just be aware of this fact first of all.

?You have tried to clean the heads with a alcohol soaked paper towel and tapping against a hard surface like the edges of your sink? Let me know.

The only other area is the contacts between cartridge and the cartridge seat. Clean by wiping those contact areas, that look like gold and are gold plated, over with a clean paper towel also soaked in high percent rubbing alcohol

Unfortunately, the only way to reset all the board electronics is to disassemble the entire printer by pulling out all the circuit boards, leaving them out and then reassembling those boards.

However, asking a user to do this is not advisable and is just too much to ask as you may, in this process, damage things that break and would void your warranty anyway.

With this in mind, I would suggest you contact Canon's customer service and request an RMA, a reference number assigned to your product's return that would be routed accordingly at their receiving docks.

    Phone:

    1-800-828-4040

Use this contact information to get started and indicate you wish an RMA for your printer and state the problem and what has been attempted here on FixYa. FixYa, although new, is supported by partners no less than Google, to name one. So, please do not hesitate you have been working with us and myself to have troubleshooted this problem so far. And, please, do not be surprise if you are asked a whole lot of questions similar to ones that have been presented to you so far here on FixYa. This is just Canon's way of being thorough and to work their methods as well. Your tolerance is appreciated.

    Regards,
    Worldvet

Brother MFC-290C not printing black

Hi,

The nozzle may be blocked. So take out the colour cartridge and place its nozzle in a bit of water for about 10 mins. Bring it out and dab the nozzle with folded paper. If the tissue is blotted with the three colour it means you have unblocked the nozzle. Try now to print after returning the colour cartridge. You may need to repeat to get good results.

Thank you!!

Hardly print in colour but run out of colour ink really quickly.

Really if you know you don't print in colour you can just decide to remove the colour ink from the printer and observe to know if it empties after a while which might mean that it was getting dried up somehow.

Do get back to me over this after you might have tried it out.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.

Canon pixma iP8500 won't print, blank pages

The colour cartridge is badly clog. put tissue with warm/hot water below the head, wait for about 30 minutes. If tissue is coloured, the dried ink inside head is out. Is it not, do suction from the outlet pipe of head cleaning mechanics.

Blank print but eats ink levels

I would imagine that you are printing in black more than you realize. The color inks tend to last longer because they are not normally used as much. Also when you print in color you are always using the black ink to make the correct colors. So every print that you have, whether it be black only or color only, the printer is using the black ink to make the colors. I work in a copier business and printer business and this is a highly asked question. Hope this was of some help.

in the print head there are hundreds of minute holes from where the ink of the cartridge comes out when you remove the head check whether the ink is coming from the holes in the head .if the ink is not coming the head may be dry and if the very less ink is coming then some of the holes are blocked. the ink has to come out from that holes for printing.

thanks.

Hp psc 1510 - only want black ink

Hi Manavoc,

I will explain you the cause for it.

It prints in yellow first and then override with black for better quality. This is the reason your color ink gets empty.
